The 43-year-old singer and his collaborator Pharrell Williams enjoyed huge success with the 2013 single but it also attracted controversy, with it’s lyrics branded “rapey” and its accompanying video – which featured Emily Ratajkowski dancing topless – branded degrading to women, and while Robin insisted there was “no negative intentions” around the track, he understands the backlash.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWe had no negative intentions when we made the record, when we made the video.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then it did open up a conversation that needed to be had. And it doesn\u2019t matter what your intentions were when you wrote the song \u2026 the people were being negatively affected by it. <\/p>\n

“And I think now, obviously, culture, society has moved into a completely different place. You won\u2019t see me making any videos like that ever again!\u201d<\/p>\n

The ‘Lost Without U’ singer admitted he lost “perspective” on what was “appropriate” at that point in his career.
He told the New York Post newspaper: “I had lost perspective on my personal life and my music and what was appropriate \u2026 and why I was doing it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d lost the intention, you know what I mean? I needed to regain my perspective and my positive intention of what my music was for \u2014 and what my life was for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robin has now released a new album ‘On Earth, and in Heaven’, and hopes the record will offer fans some positivity.<\/p>\n

He said: “I wanted to put out something that was very healing and loving and helped people get through their hard times and see the light at the end of the tunnel.”<\/p>\n

In 2014, Robin split from his wife Paula Patton and dedicated an entire album, ‘Paula’, to winning her back, and although the musical move didn’t work, the singer still believes it was “necessary” for him to make the record.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt turns out that that [album] was a necessary part of my learning curve.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
