St. Vincent teases upcoming single ‘Pay Your Way In Pain’ with a trailer – Music News

The 38-year-old singer – whose real name is Annie Clark – took to social media to share a clip to tease the track, which sees her running through a neglected apartment block, before picking up the phone.

Annie is heard answering: “Hello?”, to which a deep voice replies: “Hello, Annie”.

Viewers are then instructed to “call now”.

The voice then announces her music comeback as if it were an upcoming movie, saying: “She’s back in a new role like you’ve never seen here before. Featuring the new single, ‘Pay Your Way In Pain’.

“Nobody expected it, nobody believed it and nobody could stop it.”

Before signing off: “Daddy’s home”, a nod to the speculated title of St. Vincent’s hotly-anticipated record.

While there is no release date for the new song at present, the follow-up to 2017’s ‘Masseducation’ is expected to drop on May 14, according to an official poster which circulated online recently.

It read: “Warm Wurlitzers and wit, glistening guitars and grit, with sleaze and style for days. Taking you from uptown to downtown with the artist who makes you expect the unexpected.”

The singer recently teased that her new LP is like the “sound of being down and out Downtown in New York, 1973.”
She continued to weekly newsletter The New Cue: “Glamour that hasn’t slept for three days.

“In hindsight, I realised that the ‘Masseduction’ [album] and tour was so incredibly strict, whether it was the outfits I was wearing that literally constricted me, to the show being tight and the music being angular and rigid. When I wrapped that, I was like ‘oh, I just want things that are fluid and wiggly and I want this music to look like a Cassavetes film’.

“I wanted it to be warm tones and not really distorted, to tell these stories of flawed people being flawed and doing the best they can. Which is kind of what my life is.”

While in December, she said of the album: “It’s locked and loaded. And I’m American so I will only use gun metaphors.

“It marks a tectonic shift. I felt I had gone as far as I could possibly go with angularity.

“I was interested in going back to the music I’ve listened to more than any other – Stevie Wonder records from the early 70s, Sly and the Family Stone.

“I studied at the feet of those masters.”

Chris Barber dies aged 90 – Music News

The musician was one of the ‘Three Bs’ – along with Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball – who are considered to have defined traditional British jazz and led the ‘Trad’ revival of the 1950s and 1960s – and he died “peacefully in his sleep” after suffering with dementia, his record label The Last Music Company confirmed in a tribute post on its website.

A post was also made on the official Twitter account of The Last Music Company, which read: “BRITISH JAZZ GIANT CHRIS BARBER DIES AT AGE 90

“Chris Barber died peacefully in his sleep on 1st March 2021. He had been suffering from Dementia for the last couple of years. We are saddened by his loss.”

Chris formed his first band in London during the 1940s but it was only when he and clarinettist Monty Sunshine formed a co-operative band in 1953 under Ken Colyer that his career took off.

Chris shared a long-standing partnership with trumpeter Pat Halcox, who worked with him from 1954 to 2008 in his various bands.

The band would find success with Ottilie Patterson – who he was married to from 1959 to 1983 – as they progressed from small jazz clubs to concert halls

Barber enjoyed chart success when he played the double bass on the 1956 record ‘Petite Fleur’ as the song reached the top five in both the UK and the United States.

Chris worked closely with Lonnie Donegan, the band’s original banjoist and the pair often included a short set of ‘skiffle’ – American country blues and folk songs – in their concert sets.

The pair’s version of ‘Rock Island Line’ in 1955 became the first debut vocal recording to become a certified Gold Disc in the UK.

Barber was a central figure in the blues revival of the 1960s and introducing performers such as Sister Rosetta Sharpe, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee and Muddy Waters to Britain. He added electric guitarist John Slaughter to his band, which became the Chris Barber Jazz and Blues Band.

He was awarded an OBE for his services to music in 1991 and only announced his retirement in 2019, having led a band for almost 70 years.

Britney Spears shares rare picture alongside her teenage sons – Music News

Britney Spears delighted fans by posing alongside her teenage sons for a snap on Instagram.

The Toxic hitmaker is seen standing in the middle of Sean, 15, and Jayden, 14, for the picture, with both boys wearing face masks while Britney has hers pulled down to reveal a beaming smile.

Explaining why it’s been so long since she shared a snap with her sons, 39-year-old Britney wrote alongside the image: “I haven’t posted pictures of them for some time cause they’re at the age where they want to express their own identities and I totally get it …. But I went out of my way to make this cool edit and guess what …. They’re finally letting me post it !!!”

She also credited her sons, who she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, for being “such gentleman and so kind”, as she added: “It’s so crazy how time flies …. My boys are so big now.”

The post came after Britney, who’s the subject of new documentary Framing Britney Spears about her controversial conservatorship, had earlier taken to the social media site to reflect on a year of “craziness”.

“On all accounts of the craziness the past year … ” she wrote. “I feel like God’s tears have hit all of us with what the world has been through due to coronavirus!!! This all helps us to have a clear mind … body … spirit and offers so much more clarity in our everyday lives !!!!

“This year I devote myself to lots of tea … and healing !!!! I’m working on allowing myself to not be so strong all the time and to know it’s ok to cry !!!! I pray for deep healing this year for all of us and I hope we can all inspire each other !!!! Again … BE KIND – PASS IT ON AMERICA.”

The legendary reggae singer – who performed in The Wailers alongside reggae icon Bob Marley – has passed away in hospital, after suffering a stroke in 2020.

His sad passing has been confirmed by his manager Maxine Stowe, as well as Jamaica’s Culture Minister, Olivia Grange.

In a statement, Grange said: “At the request of the family, I announce with deepest sadness, the passing of patriarch, brother, friend and Jamaican music icon, the great Bunny Wailer. Bunny Wailer, whose given name is Neville O’Riley Livingstone, passed away at 9am today at Andrew’s Memorial Hospital in Kingston. We mourn the passing of this outstanding singer, songwriter and percussionist and celebrate his life and many accomplishments …
“We remember with great pride how Bunny, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, took Reggae music to the four corners of the earth. Today, the last surviving Wailer has passed. His son Abijah said to me this morning that ‘Bunny Wailer cannot die, he has transitioned’. What Bunny Wailer has done for Reggae, as one of the pioneers and standard-bearers of our country’s music, lives on. Let us hold dear Bunny’s music, his memory and his family.”

Throughout his huge career, in which he performed tracks such as ‘Simmer Down’ and ‘Stir It Up’, Bunny won three Grammys and has also been honoured with Jamaica’s Order Of Merit, which he was given in 2017.

T.I. and Tiny sued for defamation amid sexual abuse allegations – Music News

Rapper T.I. and wife Tameka ‘Tiny’ Harris have been sued for defamation amid sexual abuse allegations against them.

Sabrina Peterson, who hit headlines in January when she accused T.I. of putting a gun to her head in a post on Instagram and also used her social media account to share testimonies from over 30 women making sexual abuse allegations against the pair, claims she has been harassed and defamed by the couple following her posts.

She’s suing T.I. and Tiny for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, among other claims.

However, a lawyer for the couple hit back at the lawsuit in a statement, saying to Billboard: “Ms. Peterson is the definition of ‘libel proof’. She has a lengthy rap sheet for crimes involving dishonesty and violence. Nothing our clients may have said about her is defamatory. Ultimately, not only will Peterson’s meritless lawsuit be dismissed, but also she will be responsible for paying the legal fees the Harrises will be forced to incur in connection with it.”

The new lawsuit comes amid lawyer Tyrone A. Blackburn’s call for a sexual abuse investigation into the pair.

Blackburn, who is representing 11 alleged victims, penned a letter sent to state and federal authorities in Georgia and California in which he urged them to look further into the claims of “sexual abuse, forced ingestion of illegal narcotics, kidnapping, terroristic threats and false imprisonment” against T.I. and Tiny, some of which go back to 2005.

T.I. and Tiny strenuously denied the claims in a statement via their lawyer Steve Sadow, which read: “Clifford (T.I.) and Tameka Harris deny in the strongest possible terms these unsubstantiated and baseless allegations. We are confident that if these claims are thoroughly and fairly investigated, no charges will be forthcoming.

“These allegations are nothing more than the continuation of a sordid shakedown campaign that began on social media. The Harrises implore everyone not to be taken in by these obvious attempts to manipulate the press and misuse the justice system.”
