Liam Payne confirms engagement – Music News

Liam Payne has confirmed that he is engaged to his girlfriend Maya Henry.

The Strip That Down star and model Maya sparked rumours of an engagement when she was pictured wearing a diamond ring, reportedly worth $4 million (£3 million), on her wedding finger during a night out with the singer on Thursday.

A representative for Liam has since confirmed to The Huffington Post UK that he and the 20-year-old Texan are engaged to be married.

The former One Direction musician, 26, who has a three-year-old son, Bear, with his ex, British pop star Cheryl, is believed to have been dating the model for around two years.

However, it wasn’t until last September that he made their relationship Instagram official and opened up about their romance to U.K. radio presenter Roman Kemp.

“We’re fairly happy at the moment,” he told Roman of the decision to go public with his girlfriend. “I’m just past the point of where I’m bothered or not. It’s not worth my happiness; I’d just rather go out and do what I want. I’ve got nothing to hide.”

Hana Cross will detail ‘raw split’ from Brooklyn Beckham on new album – Music News

Model Hana Cross will detail her “raw split” from Brooklyn Beckham on her upcoming debut record.
Hana Cross will open up about her “raw split” from Brooklyn Beckham on her new album.

The 23-year-old model and 21-year-old aspiring photographer Brooklyn split in August 2019 and Hana is said to be upset that he has moved on and is now engaged to actress Nicola Peltz, 25.

On her upcoming debut record, she sings: “I wish that someone told me you had a habit for dishonesty . . . though you break my heart, I want to stay.”

A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “She is still raw from her split with Brooklyn and it pains her to see him so happy.

“Her record has a few heartbreak songs and she isn’t afraid of expressing how she feels. It’s probably best that Brooklyn steers well clear of it when the record comes out.”

Hana previously posted a new song called “unsaid” on Instagram, which is believed to have been inspired by Brooklyn.

The lyrics include lines such as: “You broke my heart and said let’s be friends but I never heard from you again and that’s kind of mean.

“I saw us as meant to be and you saw me as temporary and that’s kind of rough.

“I’m confused and I’m sad, I don’t know what I did but you said it wasn’t my fault but without reason how can I know?”

Hana is not the only woman to pen a song about Brooklyn; his ex-girlfriend Tallia Storm – who he dated back in 2015 when they were both young teenagers – reportedly wrote the tune ‘Still in Love’ about the star in 2017.

Speaking about the song at the time, she said: “This song is about being the ever dramatic teen that I am, and about my experience about two years ago.

“Just about when you’re in love with somebody and they move on, and you know, they kind of cheat on you.

“I think songs nowadays are like, everyone’s so happy to be about the one being the cheater.

“But you know what? Actually let’s appreciate the fact when you’re not – and you are actually the one that’s been dumped. But that’s just me.

“I wrote from my heart and I’m not one to tell lies in my songs.”

Kendrick Lamar sued over Loyalty – Music News

Kendrick Lamar has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit over his Rihanna collaboration, LOYALTY.

Producer Terrance Hayes has claimed the hip-hop star’s Grammy-winning 2017 release is a copy of the: “composition, including title, melody, harmony and rhythm” from his own 2011 song by the same name.

Hayes traced the similarity back to a mutual associate, musician Josef Leimberg, who had previously contributed to Lamar’s 2015 album, To Pimp A Butterfly.

According to legal papers filed in California on 21 August, and obtained by Music Business Worldwide, the MC would have had access to Hayes’ work through Leimberg, including a 2016 remix of the original Loyalty, which he believes was used by Kendrick’s producer Terrace Martin.

The papers allege Martin: “slowed (the track) down through a synthesiser and combined it with another sample to disguise the copying.”

Hayes also argues the subject matter of Kendrick’s tune is ‘similar’ to his own, and he is demanding a jury trial to determine damages, although he is seeking to be awarded “all profits of Defendants”, as well as “any other monetary advantage gained by the Defendants through their infringement.”

Leimberg and Martin are listed as defendants alongside Kendrick and his label and management representatives at Top Dawg Entertainment reports Music Business Worldwide.

Publicists for Kendrick have yet to comment on the allegations.

Brandy and Monica to have an ‘in-depth conversation’ about former feud before Verzuz battle – Music News

Brandy and Monica have teased that they may address their former feud during their forthcoming Verzuz battle.

The singers, who teamed up for the iconic The Boy Is Mine duet in 1998, will face off in the live stream battle on Monday 31 August.

After The Boy Is Mine was released, reports of a feud led to tensions between the singers – and Monica has hinted the pair may discuss the topic onscreen.

“It was not something that I would say was anyone’s fault,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

“We all added to it and after a while it became real… It gets a little bit frustrating for both she and I when it becomes, ‘No, I like her better. Well, I like her better,'” she mused over how fans compared the two singers.

The star hopes that their Verzuz battle will finally show people that their feud has been put to rest.

“We’ve long removed ourselves from the dramatics of it but we’re gonna have a very in-depth conversation that may possibly be shared even with the audience because there’s a lot that happens, the fans have no idea what really took place, what really caused the initial friction,” Monica said.

She added that while the pair have a lot in common, they have very different personalities, reflecting: “We’re different in the way that we dress and the things that we’ve experienced and where we grew up and I think those differences are what made The Boys Is Mine so special.”

The battle between Brandy and Monica will be screened on Instagram and Apple Music.

Adele stuns superfan with sweet direct message – Music News

Adele has left one superfan in awe after sending him a direct message to thank him for his entertaining Twitter timeline.

Colyn Elliott runs a fan account for the soul singer and on Friday he issued a public plea to the Hello hitmaker to make her long-awaited chart return sooner rather than later.

“Please release new music soon, we all miss you so much,” he posted on his Instagram Story timeline, tagging the singer in the hopes of catching her attention.

It appears Adele took note as she then responded to him privately, and revealed she had become a fan of his social media presence during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Your twitter account has entertained me all the way through covid,” Adele told him.

“You look like so much fun! I’m absolutely chuffed (pleased) you like my music,” she added: “Keep loving your life, it’s so lovely and infectious to see from every angle.”

A stunned Elliott shared a screenshot of the surprise exchange online and confessed it had reduced him to tears: “IM BAWLING MY EYES OUT (sic),” he tweeted, raving: “Adele I hope it was okay I tweeted this I was just so excited I wanted to tell my friends!”

It’s not the first time Adele has interacted with her devotees on social media – she recently replied to one Instagram follower who requested an update on her next release.

“Adele where’s the album?” the fan commented under a book recommendation the star had shared, prompting her to respond, “I honestly have no idea.”

Adele’s last album, 25, was released in 2015.

Cher slams Britney Spears’ controversial conservatorship – Music News

Cher has taken to Twitter to accuse the people behind Britney Spears’ conservatorship of treating the Toxic star like a ‘cash cow’.

The 74-year-old music legend took to social media after Britney’s legal arrangement was formally extended into 2021 following a court hearing this month, as she questioned the motive behind the conservatorship.

“She worked hard, was the golden goose, made lots of $$, got sick, now she’s the CASH COW (sic),” the Believe star tweeted.

“Does anyone who’s making (money) off her being sick want her well?” she queried.

Cher ended her post with three duck emojis, asking: “Is it a duck?”

Britney’s dad Jamie was put in charge of his daughter’s welfare and finances in 2008, following the superstar’s headline-grabbing meltdown. He relinquished some control last year as he battled ill health and passed things over to Britney’s longtime caregiver, Jodi Montgomery.

It’s not the first time the Believe hitmaker has questioned the conservatorship – in January, Cher wondered why Britney is allowed to work when she is considered legally unfit to run her own finances.

“Why is a woman being worked if it’s known she’s not well enough to care for herself?” she asked.

The conservatorship has proved unpopular among fans, who have taken to social media with the Free Britney campaign, demanding the legal arrangement be scrapped.

Britney herself has now sought to have Montgomery replace Jamie as the sole conservator overseeing her financial affairs and wellbeing. While her bid was refused in court earlier this month, Spears’ attorney has filed an appeal.

Tyrese Gibson: ‘We need to protect Beyonce and LeBron James at all costs’ – Music News

Beyonce and LeBron James need to be protected “at all costs” because they’re such powerful advocates for racial equality, Tyrese Gibson has insisted.

The singer and actor has just dropped his new song Legendary and its powerful accompanying video 8:46, which was inspired by the tragic death of African-American man George Floyd at the hands of police officers in May.

Floyd’s passing prompted Black Lives Matter movements around the world and once again brought up questions about police brutality and racism within the force as a whole, with the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, among others, also sparking global outrage.

In an interview promoting his latest venture with the Associated Press, Tyrese reflected on his inspirations and paid tribute to the celebrities who have been bold and vocal in sharing their views on the controversial topics.

“Beyonce’s Black is King changed my life and changed me forever. We need to protect Beyonce at all costs,” he said. “Whatever visions and ideas this powerful Black queen has bouncing around in her mind, we need to be willing to protect her at all costs. We need to protect LeBron James at all costs. He has decided to boldly and specifically step into carrying the torch of speaking up and speaking out.”

Tyrese also said he’s “so proud” of American footballer Colin Kaepernick, who started the practice of taking a knee during games as a protest against police brutality, adding: “Long before it was ever cool to speak up and speak out, he took a knee on behalf of peaceful protest. He compromised his own survival to peacefully protest and speak up and speak out about something that’s on his heart.”

Tyrese’s Legendary and 8:46 video are out now.

Mick Jagger: I ‘did homework’ for new movie role – Music News

Mick Jagger was careful to do his homework before starring in his new movie The Burnt Orange Heresy because he felt rusty after two decades away from acting.

The Rolling Stones rocker plays a shady art dealer in the movie – his first credited dramatic role since 2001’s The Man From Elysian Fields. Directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, and starring Claes Bang, Burnt Orange Heresy tells the story of an obsessive art dealer.

“I hadn’t acted in so long,” he told the New York Post’s Page Six.
Jagger confessed: “I’d forgotten how to do this, how to create this different persona. I had to ask, ‘So how’s this work again?'”

The 77-year-old then conducted thorough research.

Getting back to acting after so long proved tricky, so Jagger ensured he prepared extensively for his part by spending time with art dealer acquaintances.

“I looked into art dealers I knew. Had conversations with them, plus people in the art world,” he explained.
Jagger recounted asking detailed questions to ensure he understood the nature of the art world.

“I asked how the business worked, how people make crooked deals, how they make money. I actually did homework,” he said.

The film, also starring Claes Bang and Elizabeth Debicki, is available to purchase on digital platforms now.

Alicia Keys honoured by Swizz Beatz with special tribute – Music News

Swizz Beatz raised a toast to his superstar wife Alicia Keys on Thursday after becoming “the most certified female R&B artist of the millennium”.

Keys has overtaken Beyonce to snag the impressive title after racking up U.S. sales of 27.5 million certified digital singles in her career to date, according to officials at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

That figure puts the Girl on Fire hitmaker ahead of her close friend by 1.5 million units, and Beatz couldn’t contain his pride after discovering the big news, which Keys had kept to herself.

The hip-hop star congratulated the singer on the achievement in a sweet video message filmed at the couple’s home, where Keys had been washing dishes in the kitchen.

As she notices Beatz filming, the camera-shy musician runs away laughing, before accepting a glass of wine from her man to acknowledge her career milestone.

“This is serious! The highest selling R&B female artist of the decade…, beating everybody – everybody, and you’re just going to walk around the house, wash dishes, don’t say nothing about that (sic)?” Beatz lovingly questions her.

“That’s big,” he adds. “Congrats baby.”

In the accompanying caption, the multi-Grammy-winning star attributed the massive feat to the support of her loyal fans.

“He’s always creepin’ up on me!!,” Keys quipped of her man. “He thinks I’m too humble but that’s just me.

“I’m grateful. I’m honored that you chose to connect with me and show me so much love!! Wow!! The most certified female R&B artist of the millennium????? I had to re-look up the word millennium!!! deaammmmnnnn and just putting my humility to the side for a sec…20 million albums sales and 27.5 Million certified digital sales (US) just sayin’ (sic).”

She continued, “But listen for real y’all, you are my heart! You are so important to me! So let’s keep dreaming big, and choosing love and being about each other cuz the world needs us BAD right now (sic)!!! And HATE can never win! We won’t let it!”?

Keys wrapped up her post by sharing her gratitude to her husband of 10 years: “I love you all and I love my hubby for always helping me celebrate even when I’m just washing dishes around the house”.

Referencing her next, self-titled release, she concluded, “ALICIA album…. I’ll tell you when I’m ready… cheers fam (sic)!!”
