Eve to front ABC musical pilot Queens – Music News

Eve has landed herself a starring role in ABC’s upcoming musical pilot, Queens.

According to Variety, the rapper will play a character named Brianna in the show, about four estranged women in their 40s who reunite as Nasty B**ches – the ’90s group that made them legends in the hip-hop world.

Decades on, Brianna is now a proud wife and mother of five but, when an opportunity arises for the group to reunite, she grapples with whether or not she still has the swagger and confidence that made her an icon.

Eve, 42, will take on another role in the series – the Let Me Blow Ya Mind star will also render original music for the programme.

Queens is written and executive produced by Zahir McGhee, with Sabrina Wind also serving as an executive producer. ABC Signature will produce.

As well as a successful rap career, Grammy winner Eve has carved out a name for herself in the acting world too. She fronted eponymous TV series Eve from 2003 to 2006 and appeared in films like the Barbershop movies, Whip It and XXX.

Roddy Ricch unharmed as gunshots break out on music video set – Music News

Rapper Roddy Ricch narrowly escaped injury after gunshots broke out on the set of his music video on Sunday.

The Box hitmaker was filming the video alongside fellow rapper 42 Dugg at a scrapyard in Atlanta, Georgia, when the shots began. While it was initially reported that three people were victims in the gunfire, it was later confirmed that neither Rich nor Dugg were hurt.

Dugg dismissed the entire shooting story as he took to his Instagram Live to reassure fans that he was fine, saying: “Y’all stop with that fake s**t, man. We ain’t been around no gun shooting, none of that.

“Real talk, man. We good…Thanks for the love, though. I appreciate the love, though.”

XXL magazine reported that two men named Antoine Blake and Vernon Moulder were still in hospital in a “stable condition” after being shot, while another – Peter Cook – had “sustained a laceration from a piece of debris”. It’s also been reported that another person was arrested for drug possession at the scene.

While 22-year-old Ricch has yet to address the shooting himself on his social media pages, his friend DJ A-Tron confirmed that he was unharmed, tweeting that “Roddy good, all the homies good”.

And the situation could have been a “lot worse”, an eyewitness who was working as a medic on the set of the video told Atlanta’s WSB-TV.

“Everyone started running, trying to get out. Or take cover, lot of places to take cover in there,” the witness said. “Anyone that was injured, I laid hands on ‘em to make sure they were OK. Just glad it wasn’t a lot worse then it could have been… could have been worse.”

Eve will star in and write the music for new TV show ‘Queens’ – Music News

The 42-year-old rapper and singer/songwriter will play retired rapper Briana – who quit music to raise her five children – in the upcoming series and Eve is set to write and perform new music for the show.

Briana will reunite with her former Nasty B***** bandmates in a bid to recapture the fame of their hip-hop heyday, with Grammy award winning Eve set to produce original music for her character, according to Variety.

Meanwhile, Eve previously revealed she was saddened that female rappers are still having a tough time in the industry, 20 years after she hit the scene.

She said: “It’s so ridiculous that we’re still talking about this from the time that I came out, like why? Honestly, it’s so frustrating to me. My advice would just keep going, we need a balance we need female voices and female energy, it can’t just be a group of dudes out there. Just believe, believe harder than you’ve believed in anything else. One advantage the younger generation have that I didn’t is that you don’t have to rely on a label to be seen, whereas I did. There are so many different forms of social media and build your own following, it’s such a beautiful thing. I had to rely on a whole machine of people.”

Former WZNE (94.1 The Zone)/Rochester, NY Part-Timer Ryan ‘Gorilla’ DePaul Wins $1 …

Gorilla Wins!

Former STEPHENS MEDIA Alternative WZNE (94.1 THE ZONE)/ROCHESTER, NY part-timer GORILLA (A.K.A. RYAN DEPAUL) was the lucky million dollar winner of MT. DEW’s SUPER BOWL promotion. To promote their new flavor Major Melon, MT. DEW had a contest for their SUPER BOWL commercial starring JOHN CENA. The commercial full of bottles of the new DEW flavor asked viewers to count all the bottles in the commercial with the first person to guess correctly and tweet it winning $1 million dollars.

GORILLA previously hosted “GORILLA RADIO,” a metal show on SATURDAY nights and “ZONE GROWN,” a local music show on SUNDAY nights on 94.1 THE ZONE.

“It couldn’t have happened to a nicer or more deserving guy” said WZNE PD KOBE. “We put a pause on weekend part-time jocks since the pandemic hit, and GORILLA was affected by that. To see him win this life changing jackpot is an example of good things happening to good people.”

By the way, the correct guess was 243 bottles of MT. DEW’s Major Melon and now GORILLA gets to count to 1 million.

Pete Townshend teases post-lockdown The Who album – Music News

Rocker Pete Townshend is plotting to team up with Roger Daltrey after lockdown for a new The Who album.

The guitarist, 75, is working in his home studio and “wants to make another” record if it’s worthwhile financially, insisting streaming income is “a joke”.

“There’s pages and pages of draft lyrics,” he said, reports Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper. “If the moment comes, I’ll go in and start.”

The band released its 12th studio album, Who, in 2019 to critical acclaim, but the star admits he and frontman Daltrey, 76, “only just about got it done” due to their differing views.

“We’re very different – politically, socially, spiritually, in every respect,” he added. “But we happen to be in this band together.”

Amid the pandemic, the My Generation hit makers have been forced to cancel previously-postponed plans to tour the U.K. and Ireland. The musicians had originally rescheduled the March 2020 dates for this year, but ongoing coronavirus concerns prompted them to ditch the shows altogether to avoid possibly having to rebook the gigs once more.

Ne-Yo set to become a dad again – Music News

R&B star Ne-Yo is to become a father for the fifth time.

The So Sick hitmaker and his wife Crystal Smith have confirmed they are expecting their third child together – a sibling for Roman, two, and Shaffer, four.

Taking to Instagram, Ne-Yo wrote: “Overjoyed to announce… The family is expanding… #Number5… #5thandFinal… #BlessingsOnBlessings… @itscrystalsmith… You ready baby? Let’s go (sic)!”

The news emerged months after the singer admitted his marriage had been saved by the coronavirus shut down, because it forced the pair, who separated in early 2020, to deal with their relationship issues head-on.

“The whole quarantine thing was kind of a blessing. It allowed me the time to lock back in with (my family),” he shared.

“Before the quarantine happened, we were definitely talking divorce, and the quarantine forced us to sit still, block out the noise from the world – you know the world can get very, very loud, and we tend to let the world’s opinion mean more in certain situations than it should,” the artist reflected.

He added: “We’re actually stronger now than we were before. Now we feel like we can really talk to each other.”

Ne-Yo sealed the romantic reunion by proposing to his wife once again on New Year’s Eve.

The couple originally tied the knot in 2016.

Ne-Yo was previously engaged to Monyetta Shaw, with whom he shares two older children.

Lana Del Rey almost quit music following Amy Winehouse’s death – Music News

Lana Del Rey “didn’t want to sing anymore” after her idol Amy Winehouse passed away in 2011.

The Video Games hitmaker told MOJO magazine she’ll always remember receiving her first review, as it came in on the same day the Rehab singer died of alcohol poisoning, aged 27, in July 2011.

“I had 10 seconds of the most elated feeling, and then the news everywhere, on all of the televisions, was that Amy had died on her front steps and I was like no. NO,” she recalled.

“Everyone was watching, mesmerised, but I personally felt like I didn’t even want to sing anymore,” she shared.

The Blue Jeans star went on to admit she loved the anonymity and lack of pressure in the early days of her career, revealing she even recorded a track for a toilet roll commercial.

She said: “I maybe thought about Broadway. You’d get like a hundred dollars for singing background on records that would lead to nowhere.”

Recounting: “There was this company that emerged called The Orchard that was taking submissions for, like, toilet paper commercials and I definitely did one, like, under a pseudonym,” Lana said the moment was: “the happiest I’ve ever been”.

“Stay in the middle, no dog in the race, people would even hire me for background stuff. I tried to act so cool on every sofa I sat at,” she reflected.

But Lana, who is set to release her seventh album Chemtrails over the Country Club on 19 May, insisted she has no plans to step back from the limelight, sharing she has a “cover album of country songs” and another collection of “other folk songs” waiting to be released.
