Haim and John Legend lined up for pre-Grammy Awards event – Music News

Haim, John Legend, Jhene Aiko, and H.E.R. are set to perform at a virtual pre-Grammy Awards event in place of the annual MusiCares’ Person of the Year gala.

MusiCares bosses began planning the digital show in November after deciding against selecting a Person of the Year honouree for 2021 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and now they have revealed details for the online fundraiser.

Music on a Mission will feature never-before-seen sets from a string of stars, and include footage of past Person of the Year performances from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Usher, Stevie Nicks, and Tom Petty.

Laura Segura, MusicCares’ executive director, tells Billboard, “We’ve turned a difficult situation into really a special one for the people who are going to get to view it.”

Aerosmith were saluted last year, when the Foo Fighters and the Jonas Brothers were in attendance.

DJ D-Nice will help get fans warmed up for the 12 March bash with a pre-show DJ set, two days before the Grammy Awards.

Funds raised from the event will benefit MusiCares officials in supporting music community members in need during the coronavirus crisis.

Kodak Black engaged – Music News

Kodak Black is engaged to rapper Mellow Rackz.

The Tunnel Vision star pulled out all the stops to pop the question to Rackz, and arranged for a plane to fly by with the message “Might as well marry me Melody. I love u” on the back.

A video shared by Rackz on social media showed the plane, Black holding a box containing a giant diamond ring, and then Mellow wearing the ring as she hugged her husband-to-be.

She also confirmed she was engaged by sharing a picture of herself and Black, real name Bill Kapri, kissing on Instagram, writing alongside it: “Mrs. Kapri. I said yes.”

The engagement news comes just weeks after Black was released from prison, after receiving a pardon from former U.S. President Donald Trump on his last full day in office on 19 January.

Following his release, Black tweeted: “I Want To Thank The President @RealDonaldTrump For His Commitment To Justice Reform And Shortening My Sentence. I Also Want To Thank Everyone For Their Support And Love. It Means More Than You Will Ever Know. I Want To Continue Giving Back, Learning And Growing.”

Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson back in the studio – Music News

Jesy Nelson is back in the recording studio again just two months after exiting Little Mix, teasing fans with a solo project.

The singer shared what looked like a studio session photo with a guitarist and engineer and then followed songwriter/producers Patrick Jordan Patrikios and Sunny, who have both worked with Little Mix, on Instagram on Thursday.

Patrikios also shared an Instagram Story segment featuring a happy Jesy chatting to an engineer.

Fans are now convinced she has hooked up with the two hitmakers and Hanni Ibrahim to record her first solo material, especially after she shared a cryptic “Let’s go!” post and ‘liked’ a comment about releasing new music on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, her former bandmates – Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall – are gearing up to release their first track as a trio, Heartbreak Anthem.

Jesy shocked fans when she left the band in December last year to focus on mental health issues.

Her statement read: “To all my Mixers, the past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time of my life.

“The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard. There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process… I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing things that make me happy.”

Jesy also revealed she was ready to start a “new chapter” in her life and thanked fans for their ongoing support.

Meek Mill upsets Kobe Bryant fans with ‘insensitive’ new rap – Music News

Meek Mill has enraged fans by rapping about late sports icon Kobe Bryant’s helicopter crash in a newly-leaked track.

His upcoming collaboration with Lil Baby has hit the Internet and in it Meek raps: “And if I ever lack I’m going out with my chopper, it be another Kobe”.

The line has upset fans of the legendary Los Angeles Lakers basketball star, who feel the tone is insensitive and disrespectful to those who lost loved ones in the crash.

Meek has jumped on social media to slam those calling on fans to ‘cancel’ him, tweeting: “somebody promo a narrative and y’all follow it… y’all internet antics cannot stop me (sic)…”

Kobe, 41, tragically died on 26 January 2020 along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others after the helicopter they were travelling in crashed into a hillside in California amid heavy fog.

It’s not the only controversy swirling around Meek at the moment – he clashed with rival Tekashi 6ix9ine outside an Atlanta, Georgia nightclub at the weekend. Meek has also been criticised for being a part of packed shows in Houston, Texas as Covid-19 cases were on the rise across the state.

Yungblud pinching himself as David Bowie cover soundtracks NASA Mars landing – Music News

Yungblud’s cover of David Bowie’s anthem Life On Mars was played as NASA’s rover landed on the planet on Thursday.

The space agency’s Perseverance rover landed on the Red Planet as part of a mission to search for signs of ancient life and collect samples for analysis, as Yungblud’s track played during the live YouTube footage.

The musician told the BBC just before the landing he was thrilled to be part of space history, but was struggling to believe his track had been selected.

“I remember my 23-year-old manager rings me on the phone,” he said. “It was late ’cause he’s in LA and it must have been midnight ’cause I’d had a couple of beers, so I was already kind of out there.

“He’s like, ‘Yo, I just got off the phone with NASA… If the Mars rover lands successfully, they’re gonna play your cover of your favourite artist of all time, David Bowie, alongside it’. I’m just like, ‘Nah man, that just sounds like someone is just completely off their head telling you a mad story’… It’s completely unfathomable. Someone needs to slap me so I’ll wake up.”

The Weeknd gifted diamond Super Bowl ring – Music News

The Weeknd celebrated his birthday by unwrapping a custom diamond ring commemorating his show-stopping Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The Blinding Lights hitmaker was apparently gifted the one-of-a-kind piece by his manager and XO label boss Amir ‘Cash’ Esmailian in celebration of the singer’s 31st birthday on Tuesday, which he celebrated nine days after headlining the American football extravaganza.

The pricey design, which mimics the official Super Bowl rings presented to the winning team members, features 16 carats of diamonds, with the words “World Champions” wrapped around an image of the Lombardi Trophy, and notes the game’s final score of 31-9 in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ crushing defeat of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The ring, created by celebrity jeweller Elliot Eliantte, also features The Weeknd’s name on the side, and “XO” in diamonds across the top, reports TMZ.

The Weeknd performed a medley of hits including Starboy, I Can’t Feel My Face and Earned It during a blistering 13 minute-plus set at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
