Hindus upset by Rihanna’s topless pose with Ganesha pendant – Music News

Rihanna has sparked a backlash after she wore a Ganesha pendant in a topless photoshoot.

The pop superstar wore nothing but purple lavender satin boxers from the latest Savage x Fenty men’s line in the Valentine’s Day Instagram post, which featured the pendant, on a long necklace, dangling by her navel.

One of the best-known deities in Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the god of wisdom, and not all of Rihanna’s fans were impressed with her adorning the accessory.

“She’s literally wearing a Ganesha necklace wtf (what the f**k) my religion is not your aesthetic,” one commenter wrote.

“Wearing a Ganesh necklace whilst naked seems very disrespectful to Hinduism,” said another follower.

The incident isn’t the first time the Barbadian entrepreneur has been slammed with accusations of cultural appropriation. In October she was taken to task by fans for using the song Doom by Coucou Chloe in her Savage X Fenty collection fashion show. The track samples a hadith, a set of sacred Muslim texts or sayings, and followers found Rihanna’s use of it in a casual setting offensive. The singer then issued an apology, stating: “I’d like to thank the Muslim community for pointing out a huge oversight that was unintentionally offensive in our savage x fenty show. I would more importantly like to apologize to you for this honest, yet careless mistake.”

Madonna putting together Madame X tour documentary for Netflix – Music News

Madonna is set to release a Netflix documentary featuring extensive footage from her troubled Madame X tour, according to new reports.

The film will feature behind-the-scenes clips of Madonna in action and is set to detail the battles she had with hip and knee injuries, which forced her to cancel several dates in 2019 and early 2020.

A source told The Sun: “Madonna quite literally put blood, sweat and tears into the Madame X tour and she wants this documentary to show it off for the spectacle that it was.”

They went on: “She’s never been the type to fade into the background, so viewers will definitely get to witness her dry sense of humour,” adding: “she has spent weeks watching previews and helping to edit the footage at home in the U.S.”

The upcoming film will come 30 years after her ground-breaking documentary Truth Or Dare, which chronicled life on the road during her Blond Ambition tour.

Meanwhile, Madonna is also working on a movie about her life, which she is directing and co-writing with Diablo Cody.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer, a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said in a statement last September.

Man charged in hit-and-run death of Nicki Minaj’s father – Music News

New York police have charged a 70-year-old man for the hit-and-run which allegedly led to the death of Nicki Minaj’s father.

Charles Polevich turned himself in to authorities in Nassau County, Long Island on Wednesday morning, five days after he reportedly struck Robert Maraj with his car and fled.

Maraj, age 64, was admitted to a local hospital, where he subsequently died from his injuries over the weekend.

According to officials, Polevich admitted returning to his Mineola home and hiding his 1992 Volvo Station Wagon under a tarp.

However, cops were able to trace the vehicle back to the man’s address using local security camera footage.

He has since been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a fatality and tampering with evidence.

At a press conference, Nassau County Detective Lieutenant Stephen Fitzpatrick explained: “Mr Povelich did stop at that time, but then fled after that once he saw that he had injured this person.”

Polevich was arraigned in Nassau County Court and was released on $250,000 (£180,000) bail.

According to The Associated Press, he was also ordered to surrender his passport and remain in New York, and has had his driver’s licence suspended.

He is due back in court on 26 February.

Following the developments, Maraj’s estranged wife, Carol, told Newsday, “I’m very, very, very happy about the arrest.”

Nicki has yet to comment on the tragedy.

Offset treats Cardi B to luxury Valentine’s weekend getaway – Music News

Offset whisked his wife Cardi B and their daughter off to paradise to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The romantic Migos rapper also splashed out on roses, a huge teddy bear, and heart-shaped balloons, which filled the couple’s luxurious suite, complete with a four poster bed he had covered in rose petals in the shape of a heart.

Cardi gave a tour of the suite on her Instagram Story on Saturday and asked her husband, “You did this? You did that? You did that for me?”, to which he replied, “I did that for you.”

The Up hitmaker then gushed, “You did that for me? Well, I don’t even know what to say.”

The couple later enjoyed an alfresco breakfast of fresh fruit, eggs and bacon.

Offset’s grand gestures came hours after his spouse urged men to be particularly generous on Valentine’s Day.

In a series of Twitter posts, Cardi wrote: “Yes! Men do deserve to get gift as well for Valentine’s Day, but the gift have to be less expensive then the girls gift (sic). Soo if he buys you flowers you buy him grass (sic).”

The rap star was subsequently accused of hypocrisy, with fans pointing out that she has been very generous towards Offset over the years – buying him luxury cars and expensive jewellery in the past – but Cardi was quick to fire back, tweeting: “Ok so due to my Vday tweet men came on my twitter roasting me sayin ‘but you bought your man a lambo but remember… I got 550K ring on my left hand, 400k ring on my right, Thousands of dollars In Birkins, soo much jewelry, a lambo truck and rolls Royce truck… so we even in gifts (sic).

“So if ya don’t like the flowers & grass comparisons let me give ya one that make men happy. If you buy her thousand dollars Louboutin heels she should buy you a ps5 that’s around 550$. It’s fair… now if you think your gift should cost more then ur girl gift you are just a b**ch (sic).”

Ed Sheeran hints he’ll release a new album this year – Music News

The ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker celebrated his 30th birthday on Wednesday (17.02.21), and used an Instagram post marking the special occasion to also reveal his career plans for 2021.

Ed told his followers he plans to drop a “fourth instalment in the series” this year, which is heavily speculated to be a reference to his mathematics-themed album titles, having previously released records named ‘Plus’, ‘Multiply’, and ‘Divide’.

Alongside a picture of his birthday cake and a photo of himself as a child dressed as a pirate, he wrote: “30 today. Thank you for all your wonderful messages, I feel very loved. Currently dressed the same as I was on my 3rd birthday about to chow down on Colin the pirate caterpillar, poor bloke

“I’ll be back online with the 4th instalment in the series later this year, until then xx (sic)”

Although the ‘Shape of You’ singer didn’t give any further details, it’s thought his next album could follow the same format and be named either ‘Minus’ or ‘Subtract’.

The news comes after Ed released a new track named ‘Afterglow’ in December.

To announce the release, the Grammy-winner shared his Jackson Pollock-inspired painting for the single’s artwork and told fans he would give them “a Christmas present”.

He wrote: “11am GMT tomorrow. A Christmas present.(sic)”

The uplifting ballad was accompanied with a one-take performance of the track as the music video.

He wrote: “Hey guys. Afterglow is a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you. It’s not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love, and hope you love too. Enjoy ! Have a safe and happy festive break and New Year’s. Back to dad land for me now, ciao x (sic)”

It marked the first new material from Ed since his 2019 album, ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’, which featured the likes of Stormzy, Khalid, Cardi B, Chance the Rapper and Eminem, and came a year after the singer-songwriter announced his hiatus from music.

Finneas debuts Nick Cordero tribute song on Amanda Kloots’ TV show – Music News

Finneas performed his tribute to Nick Cordero on his widow Amanda Kloots’ show The Talk on Tuesday.

Billie Eilish’s brother released What They’ll Say About Us in September and explained the track was partly inspired by Kloots’ social media updates about her actor husband’s Covid-19 battle, before he died in July.

And on Tuesday, he performed the track on Kloots’ daytime show, explaining he wrote the tune last summer after spending the day attending a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles with his girlfriend Claudia and sister Billie.

“I’d come home from these protests every day and immediately check my phone to look at Amanda’s Instagram to see how her husband, Nick, was doing,” Finneas said. “Pretty much anything I feel overwhelmed by, I end up writing about… to document how I’m feeling.”

“When you listen to this song as much as I have, you hear this incredible heartbeat kick in in the song and then there’s this part where it really kinda feels you are mimicking the sirens of the protests that you were at and it literally takes me back to that moment of being in the hospital and holding Nick’s hand and looking out the window and seeing army tanks drive by,” Kloots shared. “What’s crazy to me is you were somehow able to capture that journey that I went on without ever meeting me.”

Finneas went on to call Kloots “brave”, admitting her openness made him feel like he knew her and Cordero.

“I can’t thank you enough for allowing me and people like me to get to know you and your family through all of this,” he shared.

The pair finally met at a celebration of Cordero’s birthday last year.

Dave Grohl: It’s heartbreaking that Kurt Cobain isn’t here to bless the world with his incredible songwriting talent – Music News

The former Nirvana drummer has admitted it’s “one of the greatest heartbreaks” of his life that the ‘Come As You Are’ rockers have been defunct since the tragic suicide of their frontman in 1994, who he hailed “the greatest songwriter of our generation”.

Speaking on his band Foo Fighters’ ‘Medicine At Midnight Radio station on Apple Music, the 52-year-old musician said: “Of course, it was an incredibly challenging experience and ultimately one of the greatest heartbreaks of my life that Nirvana isn’t still here today making music.

“Whether it would be called Nirvana or something else. It is one of my life’s greatest heartbreaks that Kurt isn’t still here to write more amazing songs because it’s pretty clear that he was blessed with a gift.

I think it’s safe to say that he was the greatest songwriter of our generation. I’m very proud to say that I got to be his drummer and play those songs every night.”

The ‘Times Like These’ hitmaker also reflected on the grunge legends’ unexpected mainstream success with 1991 hit ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and their seminal album ‘Nevermind’.

He said: “We were still in our van and we were just watching this happen in front of us.

“The shows were getting bigger. The crowds were getting bigger. The crowds outside of the shows were bigger than the crowds inside the shows. We could see that something was happening, but we really never expected that it would turn out to be as big as it was. I don’t think any of us expected that.”

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters’ Pat Smear, who was a touring guitarist for Nirvana between 1993 to 1994, recently delighted fans when he revealed he and Grohl still jam with bassist Krist Novoselic and secretly perform Nirvana songs.

He said: “Every once in a while, me and Krist and Dave get together and we do play as if we’re Nirvana
“So I don’t have to miss it — we do it. If we’re in the same town together, or whatever, we’ll get together and jam.”

“I didn’t want to found the Gathering, the Gathering found me. What we do is, in the exchange of information and informing each other, we begin to understand where we have strengths and where we have weaknesses. How do we fix our weaknesses, and how do we broaden our strengths?” Belafonte said back in 2012.
