The 69-year-old KISS rocker took to Twitter to share a selfie holding onto his vaccination card on Tuesday (16.02.21), and admitted he was “thrilled” to have had the jab and encouraged others to get it when it’s their time.

He wrote: “I got my SECOND COVID SHOT this morning! So grateful and THRILLED. PLEASE, let’s ALL stay safe as possible and continue to watch out for each other. (sic)”

Meanwhile, the heavy metaller – who is also known as The Starchild in KISS – recently revealed he has never been more active amid the coronavirus pandemic.

He said: “During COVID, I’ve been bike-riding 25 miles, three times a week. That’s a great aerobic workout, and it’s also a great core workout, because you’re leaning forward on your bike and tensing you abdomen and your back, and of course it’s great for your legs. Along with some light weights, you really don’t need much more than that.”

The ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’ star insisted it’s important now more than ever that people make health choices that will “optimise your health and longevity”.

He said: “The best way to be in shape is to be in shape, and once you get there, stay there. Once you have that momentum, it’s much easier to maintain than to create.

“The decisions you make in your 40s or 50s will determine what happens in your 60s and 70s, and hopefully beyond. You can optimise your health and longevity by the choices you make now — and obviously COVID puts that demographic at an even higher risk. So reduce all risk factors: Be mindful of heart disease, check with a nutritionist and get adequate exercise.”

Ronnie James Dio’s autobiography set to be posthumously released in July – Music News

The late heavy metal legend’s long-awaited tome, ‘Rainbow in the Dark’, will finally be published, more than a decade after the singer-and-composer’s passing in 2010 at the age of 67.

Dio had been working on his memoir before he died from stomach cancer 11 years ago.

Completed by British author and music journalist, Mick Wall, the Permuted Press book will come out on July 27.

‘Rainbow in the Dark’ will give fans an inside look at Dio’s five decades in the music business as the bandleader of bands Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Heaven & Hell.

A press release states that the book documents “coming-of-age tales, glorious stories of excess, and candid recollections of what really happened backstage, at the hotel, in the studio, and back home behind closed doors far away from the road.”

In 2020, it was announced that a tell-all documentary about Dio is in the works with Don Argott and Damian Fenton at the helm.

The seminal artist’s widow Wendy said at the time: “I am very excited to be working with BMG on Ronnie’s long-awaited documentary. Ronnie loved his fans and I hope they will enjoy this trip through Ronnie’s life.”

The film will include “never-before-seen archival footage and photos from his personal archives, plus “scenes with his closest peers, friends and family.”

Music industry welcomes Government commitment to save touring in Europe following Commons evidence session – Music News

Yesterday (16 February) MPs from the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee heard evidence from industry leaders including the Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM), Deborah Annetts. The ISM warned that touring artists faced an “extraordinary crisis” due to costly new barriers to performing in the European Union which include visas and work permits. The ISM called on the UK Government to (1) negotiate a bespoke visa waiver agreement with the EU for the creative sector and (2) enter bilateral discussions with key EU Member States to sort out work permit rules.

The ISM and the MU have welcomed the firm commitment of the Minister for Digital and Culture Caroline Dinenage to work with music organisations to find workable solutions to these critical issues including mobility. We understand that this commitment extends across the whole of Whitehall. The Government has also indicated that it is its ambition to start discussions with key EU Member states in the coming weeks to address issues regarding work permits.

DCMS also confirmed that musicians travelling with portable musical instruments between the UK and the EU will not be subject to costly customs rules in the form of formal declaration or ATA Carnet and that guidance will be available as soon as possible. This important clarification was welcomed by the music sector. The ISM and the MU have outlined their commitment to play an active and constructive role with the UK Government to fix the problems facing touring musicians after Brexit.

ISM Chief Executive Deborah Annetts said:

‘‘I was delighted to speak to MPs yesterday and it was fantastic to see that the Minister and civil servants at DCMS are fully committed to fixing the problems including mobility facing touring musicians after Brexit. We now need the same willingness from the EU so that both sides can come together to find workable solutions to the mountain of costs and red tape.

‘The Creative industries contributed more than £111bn to the UK economy in 2018 but we have already been so badly affected by COVID-19. The ISM is ready to expand our ongoing activities to support the UK Government so that close cultural collaboration can continue after Brexit.’

Horace Trubridge, Musicians’ Union General Secretary, said:

‘Both the the MU and the ISM have amassed a large body of evidence and information that we are happy to share with the Ministers in order to work towards finding positive solutions for the problems that our world leading musicians and the ancillary workers currently face as a result of the breakdown in negotiations for our sector. Let’s move forward together with the various Government departments in a spirit of cooperation to systematically remove the barriers that we have identified.’

Cardi B thanks fans for support after latest single ‘Up’ debuts at number two on Billboard Hot 100 – Music News

Cardi B has thanked her fans for their support after her latest single ‘Up’ debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

The 28-year-old rapper has admitted the chart feat is a major deal for her, as she insisted this is the kind of stuff that only happens to “pop girls”.

The US megastar also noted that the last solo rapper to have a track debut in the top 5 of the US chart was Lauryn Hill with ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ in 1998.

Cardi tweeted alongside the chart infographic: “Just landed and my wifi back poppin .I want to say thank you to all my fans and supporters this is BIG for me .I wanted to beat my last solo single number & I over succeeded.First time a female rapper debut top 5 since Lauren.This is pop girl s*** but I’m not pop . (sic)”

Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ is currently number one, and if the ‘Press’ rapper overtakes her, she will land her fifth US No1.

Meanwhile, Cardi recently hailed ‘Up’ as “more cocky” compared to her “very sexual” hit ‘WAP’.

In the music video for the song, Cardi bids farewell to 2020 with a funeral for the unprecedented year with a gravestone with “RIP 2020” on it and also locks lips and tongues with a group of female dancers in the racy video.

Cardi didn’t want to repeat herself and recreate another ‘WAP’ – which features Megan Thee Stallion – while she insisted the goal was to create “something more gangster” and inspired by the Chicago Drill music scene.
She said: “I wanted to do something really different. It took me more than a month …we started rehearsing in December for this moment …The grind don’t stop. I thought that my last song was more sexy … I wanted to do something more gangster, more cocky.

“My last song was very sexual, very sexual. So I always want my next songs to be different than the one before. If a topic on one of my songs is money, the other topic I want it to be about something else. When I started rapping, when I first put music out, like my mixtape, it was all … This might sound crazy, but I got really inspired of Drill Chicago music. I was young, and I liked that and everything, so my mixtape was very all about gangster violence. If it’s up, then it’s stuck. That’s where I wanted to take it with this record.”

‘Up’ is set to feature on Cardi’s hotly-anitciapted follow-up to her 2018 critically-acclaimed debut studio album ‘Invasion of Privacy’.

Mariah Carey to be honoured by African American Film Critics Association – Music News

Mariah Carey is set to receive a special honour by officials at the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA).

The We Belong Together singer will receive the Innovator award in recognition of her visual creativity in music videos and specials.

“Mariah Carey is often recognized as a global icon for her musical gifts, but rarely is she celebrated for the visual storytelling in her music videos and specials,” said Gil Robertson, the association’s CEO/president, according to Billboard. “We’re recognizing her as a creator. She has been very involved over the years in the creation, stories and storylines in her videos and we thought she deserved recognition.”

George C. Wolfe, who directed the awards season favourite Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, will also receive a special honour – he’ll be taking home the Salute to Excellence accolade.

Netflix bosses will be presented with the Cinema Vanguard prize for “fostering a global tribe rooted in bringing all people together across various languages and continents through the power of cinema”, while politician and voting rights activist Stacey Abrams’ documentary All In: The Fight for Democracy will be recognised with the Stanley Kramer Award for Social Justice at the organisation’s 12th annual AAFCA Awards, which will take place online on 7 April.

Previous recipients of the special honours include Quincy Jones, Sidney Poitier, Carl Reiner, Edward James Olmos, George Lucas, and Cicely Tyson.

Jesy Nelson hints she’s set to release solo music – Music News

After the 29-year-old singer quit girl group Little Mix – which is now comprised of Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards – in December, she’s been in the studio with songwriters Patrick Patrikios and Hanni Ibrahim, who worked on their 2018 LP ‘LM5’ and 2016’s mega-hit ‘Touch’.

Jesy sparked speculation she’s working on a solo project as she posted mirror selfies on Instagram with the caption: “Let’s go”, along with some musical notes emojis.

And when a fan asked: “Are we getting JN1?”, Jesy liked the comment and sent her followers into a frenzy.

She then further fuelled speculation that she’s working on music with a studio snap with Patrick and Hanni on her Instagram Story, which had four See-No-Evil Monkey emojis across it.

Jesy’s solo hints come two months after she announced her departure from the ‘Confetti’ group in a statement on social media, in which she admitted that being part of the band had “really taken a toll” on her mental health and she was quitting to do things that make her happy.

In an emotional note addressed to “all my Mixers”, she wrote: “The past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time of my life. We have achieved things I never thought possible. From winning our first Brit Award to our sold out shows at the 02. Making friends and fans all over the world I can’t thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never ever forget it.

“The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.

“There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking core of ourselves rather than focussing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process.

“So after much consideration and with a heavy heart, I’m announcing I’m leaving Little Mix. I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing things that make me happy. I’m ready to embark on a new chapter in my life – I’m not sure what its going to look like right now, but I hope you’ll still be there to support me.”

Jesy went on to thank all the fans who had supported her and Little Mix from the moment they were formed on ‘The X Factor’ in 2011, ultimately making them a global pop success, and she also paid tribute to her three former bandmates for creating so many “amazing memories” with her.

She continued: “I want to say thank you to everyone involved in our journey. All the hard work and dedication that went into making us a success. To every single fan who came to see us in concert, who listened to our songs and sung their hearts out, sent me messages and supported me along the way I want you to know I love you all so much and I could never have done this without you and I appreciate it endlessly.

“Most of all I want to say thank you to Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne for creating some of the most amazing memories I’ll never forget. I hope that you’ll continue to fulfil all of your dreams and keep on making music that people love. Love Jesy x (sic)”

Jesy’s decision to leave Little Mix was supported by the other three members who insisted they were “fully supportive” of their friend in her decision, whilst the trio vowed to carry on the group without her.
