Taylor Swift’s ‘Fearless’ re-recordings will be eligible for performance Grammy awards – Music News

Taylor Swift’s re-recordings of her tracks from ‘Fearless’ will be eligible for performance Grammy awards.

The 31-year-old star – who had previously revealed plans to release new versions of her early records after Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings bought the writes to her back catalogue – is set to release a reworked edition of her 2008 LP, which comes with six brand new songs.

And the Recording Academy has stated that the re-recorded tracks, including ‘Love Story’, will only be allowed to be nominated for performance accolades, not songwriting awards.

A Grammys spokesperson told Billboard: “Current eligibility guidelines would allow for the new performances and albums to be eligible if they were recorded within the last five years. However, none of the older songs would be eligible for songwriting awards.”

However, that doesn’t apply to the six new tracks, which can be nominated for songwriting prizes as well.

Last week, the ’Shake It Off’ hitmaker announced the re-issue on social media, writing: “I’m thrilled to tell you that my new version of ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ is done and will be with you soon.

“It has 26 songs including 6 never before released songs from the vault. ‘Love Story (Taylor’s Version)’ will be out tonight.”

The album is available for pre-order, and a hidden message in an accompanying note suggested it could drop in April.

In a lengthy statement, she added: “Artists should own their own work for so many reasons, but the most screamingly obvious one is that the artist is the only one who really *knows* that body of work.

“For example, only I know which songs I wrote that almost made the Fearless album. Songs I absolutely adored, but were held back for different reasons (don’t want too many breakup songs, don’t want too many down tempo songs, can’t fit that many songs on a physical CD).”

Hayley Williams is ‘ready for the next Paramore album’ – Music News

The ‘Emergency’ rocker released her second solo album ‘Flowers For Vases / Descansos’ earlier this month and, after two solo records, Hayley has admitted she’s not planning to record another solo project and is ready to get into the studio with her Paramore bandmates.

Responding to a fan who asked her on Twitter if there were songs left over from her sessions for ‘Flowers For Vases/Descansos’ that she will either use for another solo LP or Paramore, she replied: “there are more songs, yeah. but I’m not planning on another solo album. and I’m not sure if they’d be great for Paramore. I’m ready for the next Paramore album. let’s go. (sic)”

The ‘Misery Business’ singer previously promised fans she isn’t abandoning Paramore – who went on hiatus in 2018 – for “greener grass”.

She said: “I can’t deny there’re frontwomen in history who went solo and didn’t go back, so that’s where I have to trust that the band knows I’m not looking for greener grass.

“I see guys like Julian Casablancas and Thom Yorke put out multiple records and go back to their bands all time. They do their own s*** and nobody thinks it cannibalises The Strokes or Radiohead.

“I’m just trying to get some of that other grass and bring it back over to our side, so I can be like, ‘Try this s***, it’s not too bad’.”

The band’s last studio album was 2017’s ‘After Laughter’.

Neil Young is set to release the concert film and live album ‘Young Shakespeare’ – Music News

The 75-year-old music legend will treat fans to the previously unreleased footage from the 1971 performance, which is the earliest known concert recording of Neil, from his set at The Shakespeare Theater in Stratford, Connecticut, on March 26.

Originally intended for a presentation on German TV later that year, the recordings will now be made public for the very first time.

The analogue tapes have been dusted off and restored and include acoustic recordings of two ‘After the Gold Rush’ tracks and the likes of ‘Ohio’, ‘Cowgirl in the Sand’, ‘Helpless’, ‘Down by the River’ and ‘Sugar Mountain’, plus tracks from 1972’s seminal LP ‘Harvest’.

On his Neil Young Archives (NYA) site, Neil explained that ‘Young Shakespeare’ is “a more calm performance, without the celebratory atmosphere of Massey Hall, captured live on 16mm. Young Shakespeare is a very special event. To my fans, I say this is the best ever … one of the most pure-sounding acoustic performances we have in the Archive.”

The live album will be available on vinyl and CD, while the concert film will be released as a standalone DVD, and all formats will come with a Deluxe Box Set Edition.

Meanwhile, Neil is also set to release the lost album ‘Johnny’s Island’.

The ‘Cinnamon Girl’ hitmaker recorded the tracks at Honolulu’s Commercial Recorders studio in Hawaii, during the same sessions for his 1982 LP ‘Trans’ .

The collection was previously called ‘Island In The Sun’ and some of the songs made at the time, such as ‘Like An Inca’, ‘Hold On To Your Love’, and ‘Little Thing Called Love’, ended up on ‘Trans’.

The record will now be released in all its glory via the Neil Young Archives “soon”.

Neil previously announced on his website for the project: “‘Johnny’s Island’ a complete album now being prepared for release at NYA, includes a majority of unreleased tracks including ‘Big Pearl,’ ‘Island In The Sun,’ and ‘Love Hotel,’ plus others you may have heard before. It’s a beautiful record coming to you soon.”

The ‘Young Shakespeare’ track-listing is:

1. ‘Tell Me Why’
2. ‘Old Man’
3. ‘The Needle and the Damage Done’
4. ‘Ohio’
5. ‘Dance Dance Dance’
6. ‘Cowgirl in the Sand’
7. ‘A Man Needs a Maid / Heart Of Gold’
8. ‘Journey Through the Past’
9. ‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down’
10. ‘Helpless’
11. ‘Down by the River’
12. ‘Sugar Mountain’

Liam Gallagher has insisted an Oasis reunion is ‘gonna happen’ – Music News

The 48-year-old rocker once again sent fans into a frenzy on social media on Sunday (14.02.21) after he reignited rumours his former band Oasis – whom he fronted with his brother and bitter rival Noel Gallagher – will get back together after more than a decade apart.

Liam responded to a fan on Twitter who begged him to get the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmakers back together so they could see the band live.

The fan wrote: “HEY LIAM,i need you to give me hope that oasis will come back please i’m 19 years old i want to live that concert, i HATE not being born earlier (sic)”

And Liam replied: “It’s gonna happen (sic)”

Although the rocker didn’t give any further information on the subject, fans have since speculated the group could reunite later this year, after Liam reached out to his brother – whom he fell out with backstage at an Oasis concert in 2009, causing the demise of the band – to claim that 2021 is “our year”.

He tweeted on New Year’s Day (01.01.21): “HNY Noel love you long time 2021 is our year c’mon you know LG x (sic)”

Meanwhile, Liam previously claimed his older brother turned down a whopping £100 million offer for the ‘Some Might Say’ musicians to go on a reunion tour.

The ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker – who went solo in 2017 – revealed Oasis were close to reuniting for a run of gigs shortly after their split, but their ex-guitarist wasn’t willing to get back together for the shows.

Liam said: “When someone offers you 100 million pounds to do a few gigs and that man, you’re going to go, ‘Alright then yeah…’ there was a lot of money knocking about.

“It was 100 million pounds to do a tour and that and I’m thinking, ‘I’m not a d***head, know what I mean? I’ll have a bit of that.’

“He’s not into it is he? He’s after a knighthood isn’t he?”

Dave Grohl turned down Heartbreakers gig after Kurt Cobain’s death – Music News

Dave Grohl turned down the chance to become Tom Petty’s drummer because he couldn’t stomach returning to the stage so soon after Kurt Cobain’s death.

The Foo Fighters star has revealed the offer came in just after Nirvana called it a day following Cobain’s death in 1994. Grohl had joined Petty’s band The Heartbreakers for a Saturday Night Live appearance and the American Girl rocker suggested he should be Stan Lynch’s permanent replacement.

“We had so much fun (on SNL) and we all got along so well,” Grohl told Howard Stern on Friday. “We played SNL and afterwards he was like, ‘Man, that was good. It would be a shame if that’s the only time we do it’.

“And then he called me at home and he’s like, ‘Well look, if you want… here’s how we do it: you get your own bus and we don’t tour too hard’. He was kind of explaining like, ‘If you’re into it, come out and do it for a little while’.

“I just felt weird about going right back to the drums, because it would have just reminded me of being in Nirvana. It would have been sad for me personally. It would have been an emotional thing to be behind the drum set every night and not have Kurt there. So I was like, ‘Nah, f**k it. I’m gonna try this other thing’.”

The other thing was Grohl’s new band, Foo Fighters.

The Who cancel UK and Ireland tour – Music News

The rock legends were due to play 10 dates next month but have scrapped their plans due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, band members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend said: “We are very sorry we have to cancel our planned March 2021 UK and Ireland shows.

“Please excuse the delay but we wanted to wait as long as possible to see if we could indeed play them. However, as you can see the current situation makes this impossible.

“Thanks for all you wonderful support and we hope to see you in the future when conditions allow.”

The ‘My Generation’ band had already postponed the original tour from March 2020 as COVID-19 forced hundreds of artists to cancel their shows.

At the time, frontman Roger promised that the gigs would “definitely happen”.

The 76-year-old musician said: “[The shows will] definitely happen and it may be the last time we do a tour of this type, so keep those tickets, as the shows will be fantastic.”

Pete had previously stated that The Who would not be performing streaming shows during the pandemic like some of their peers.

The 75-year-old guitarist said: “The idea of doing an online concert really suits musicians who are very independent. It doesn’t suit old rock ‘n’ roll elitists like me.

“I don’t think I have tuned my own guitar to go on stage for many years.”

Dropkick Murphys announce free St. Patrick’s Day livestream – Music News

True to their annual tradition – with a twist for these turbulent times – Dropkick Murphys will unite with music fans from around the globe for Dropkick Murphys St. Patrick’s Day Stream 2021…Still Locked Down to virtually celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 17 at 11pm UK time. The free streaming online concert–with no in-person audience–will be simulcast worldwide via www.DKMstream.com.

Dropkick Murphys St. Patrick’s Day Stream 2021…Still Locked Down is presented by Boston-area tech company Pega (a leading provider of digital transformation software) and sponsored by YOU.

Dropkick Murphys founder Ken Casey explains, “Instead of charging for tickets, we’re going to ‘pass the virtual hat’ so you can donate what you’d like to help support us in our efforts to keep paying our employees. When we did the first two free live streams for charity, our fans were super generous and we raised lots of money for good causes. But frankly, we’ve been out of work for over a year, so this one, we’ve gotta make about us. Of course, a portion will also go to charity, as always! ”

People who donate in advance or during the stream (via www.DKMstream.com) will see their name scroll across the ticker at the bottom of the screen during Still Locked Down.

Still Locked Down will feature a variety of fan favourites, as well as select songs from the band’s new studio album, due out soon. Look for details about the new album next week.

After last year’s Streaming Outta Fenway and Streaming Up From Boston live stream performances, Dropkick Murphys are now focusing on bringing fans the show they’d expect to see in person. The St. Patrick’s Day 2021 streaming event will feature Dropkick Murphys performing socially distanced on an arena-sized stage with a full LED screen and a brand new video show directed by the band’s longtime friend Josh Adams from Mindpool Live. Josh has also directed two Dropkick Murphys concert films and is the director of live concert video productions for Foo Fighters.

Dropkick Murphys have a long history of giving back and finding creative ways to connect with fans, and they’ve continued this tradition throughout the pandemic. On St. Patrick’s Day 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic was hitting critical mass in the United States, Dropkick Murphys held their Streaming Up From Boston live stream event in lieu of their normal Boston Blowout St. Patrick’s Day celebration. To date, it’s been watched more than 13 million times across platforms, was featured on CBS This Morning Saturday, CNN, NBC Nightly News, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and in the Wall Street Journal, and raised more than $60,000 through the band’s charitable organization, The Claddagh Fund.

In May 2020, they masterminded the historic Streaming Outta Fenway presented by Pega. Taking the infield at Fenway Park instruments in-hand, it stood out as the first-ever music event without an in-person audience at a major U.S. sports venue, and the first music performance directly on the infield at Fenway. Bruce Springsteen joined on the Jumbotron for a two-song “Double Play” of DKM’s “Rose Tattoo” and his “American Land.” Most importantly, they hauled in $700,000-plus to benefit charities such as Boston Resiliency Fund, Feeding America®, and Habitat for Humanity, Greater Boston.

Dropkick Murphys are: Al Barr (lead vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, tin whistle, accordion, piano, vocals), Ken Casey (lead vocals), Jeff DaRosa (guitars, banjo, mandolin, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, percussion, vocals), James Lynch (guitars, vocals), Kevin Rheault (touring bassist) and Lee Forshner (touring bagpipe player).

Taylor Swift’s new Love Story outselling original – Music News

Taylor Swift’s newly re-recorded version of Love Story is outperforming the original.

The reworked track was released just after midnight on Friday, and quickly eclipsed the original song’s sales with an impressive 10,000 downloads in 24 hours.

Taylor re-recorded the song as part of her session to rejig her entire 2008 album Fearless in an effort to deprive the current owners of her masters of any profit after her music business nemesis, Scooter Braun, sold them in November last year.

The downloads tally is particularly impressive because Taylor only announced she was releasing the new version of Love Story on Thursday.

The original Love Story, which became a global hit for Swift, only sold 200 downloads on 12 February. It has sold a total of 6.13 million downloads since it was first released 12 years ago.

Taylor also plans to release a handful of outtakes and rarities on her Fearless re-release planned for April – the first of six albums she hopes to revisit.

Braun bought her masters from Taylor’s old record label in 2019 and sold them on in November.

The defiant singer has always made it clear she would re-record and re-release all her old albums once she was legally entitled to do so.
