Callum Beattie thinks his parents’ divorce was the ‘best thing’ to happen to him – Music News

The Scottish singer was raised by his dad after his mother and father split when he was just eight years old, and although it was a “very sad” time in his life, he credits the period with making him into a songwriter.

He told The Telegraph newspaper: “Although [the divorce] was very sad, it was almost the best thing that happened to me. It made me a songwriter. I had stories to tell. Music became my escape.”

And the 29-year-old star recalled how his dad introduced him to classic records from a young age.

He said: “After work, he would come home, crack open a bottle of red and play me all these fantastic records from Elton John to Pink Floyd.

“I begged him for a guitar, so he brought me a second-hand one and a chord book.

“He said: ‘There we go, there’s a thousand chords, so start there.’ I kinda panicked.”

Callum was just 10 when he played his first gigs.

He recalled: “I started playing pubs when I was around 10. My dad would put a wee ashtray on the floor and ask me to sing Elvis and people would chuck money in it.

“I used to play the roughest bars imaginable. In one – I won’t tell you which because they’re good people and I don’t want to dob them in – a prostitute used to come and sit right in front of me. And she would spread her legs whenever I played The Beatles.

“I was quite a young lad, so I thought, ‘Woah, okay’. You never knew what you were going to get there.” Meanwhile, the ‘Tears in My Eyes’ singer’s tour in support of his album, ‘People Like Us’, has been postponed three times due to the coronavirus pandemic, which he’s found “really difficult”.

He said: “Performing is my medicine, my release, so to not have that is really difficult.

“It took me two years to produce this album, and now I won’t be able to perform it for another two.

“I know we’re making these sacrifices for family and friends, so that helps me keep on.”

Geri Horner shares message of self-love in Valentine’s Day lyric video ‘Without Love’ – Music News

This Valentine’s Day, Geri Horner (née Halliwell) shares a message of self-love to accompany the lyric video for her song ‘Without Love’ – and a special jam tart recipe, as a treat.

“Valentine’s Day can be the loneliest day of the year for some. I wanted to say to everyone – women and men, girls and boys and everyone in between – that I’m thinking of you, and I know what that feels like. For years my mother used to write me Valentine’s Day cards and pretended it wasn’t from her. Maybe today can be about us sharing the love and giving yourself a bit of self-love.”

The idea for ‘Without Love’ came to Geri a few years ago, she said: “The song was inspired by a young artist in a boyband. I looked at him and I wondered if he was lonely. It reminded me of when I was younger. I was having all this success, I chased all those things and flew too close to the sun, but I didn’t have love in my life.”

“It’s a cliché but it’s true – you have to learn to love yourself first. Everything else comes after. Otherwise, you will constantly feel empty no matter how many people adore you.”

‘Without Love’ lyrics

You’re Number One, now everyone is so impressed,
Charmed by your ways, those easy lays, they get undressed.
Flying high is lonely, showbiz is phony.
Look in the mirror and ask yourself.

Without love,
Where would you be without love?
When will all this be enough?
Where would you be without love? Without love?
Remember who you used to be,
A boy who’d give just anything and more,
Anything just to be loved.

You’re in the sky, burning so bright, close to the sun,
Still you can fly, chasing that high, you feel so numb.
Your world is changing, it’s busy faking.
Don’t be afraid to ask yourself.

Without love,
Where would you be without love?
When will all this be enough?
Where would you be without love? Without love?
Remember who you used to be,
A boy who’d give just anything and more,
Anything just to be loved.

Speaking on Matt Morgan’s podcast, Noel said: “I’ve seen him and I’ve spoken to him a couple of times.
“I’ve seen him, we didn’t talk about coronavirus, we’re not neurotic, I never mentioned it and he never mentioned apart from to say it’s s***.

“I know he’s recorded another album since lockdown started, he had one that came out in lockdown and about two weeks later he’d finished another one. He’s a got a great studio.”

The upcoming album will be the former Jam star’s 16th solo LP.

He said: “I’ve written a tune that sounds very much like The Cure, and I didn’t even have to dial back the copyright, it just sounds like The Cure. It’s called ‘Pretty Boy’.”

The ‘Wonderwall’ songwriter also teamed up with dance duo CamelPhat on the tech-house track, ‘Not Over Yet’ also has a Dizzee Rascal collaboration on the way, whilst he also sings on Imelda May’s new single ‘Just One Kiss’, that also features Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.

Ludacris learning to cook in TV special – Music News

Rapper/actor Ludacris is heading into the kitchen to pick up a few culinary skills for a new cooking special.

The Area Codes hitmaker is the first to admit he is pretty useless when it comes to whipping up tasty treats, but he hopes to change all that with Luda Can’t Cook, in which he will be trained by professional chef Meherwan Irani.

“When men like myself are hungry, we just want to eat,” he told Billboard. “We don’t want to take 30 minutes to an hour to cook.”

However, he was amazed by all the international flavours and new techniques he discovered from Irani, who gave him a lesson in Indian food.

“It was an eye-opener and so many lightbulb moments for me,” Ludacris confessed.

The hip-hop star, who is a co-owner of the Chicken + Beer restaurant at the Atlanta, Georgia airport, is spoiled at home by his wife, model Eudoxie, who serves up a lot of her favourite foods from her native Gabon for her man and their family.

“She does all the cooking, which is part of the reason I can’t cook,” he insisted. “She has her own style and she’s very, very good at it.”

And Ludacris admits he never learned how to make the basics when he was young because cooking wasn’t a skill his mother, Roberta, really mastered until later in life.

“I love my mother with all my heart. My mother was not the best cook in the world,” he shared. “Her food and cooking has gotten better and better over a long period of time.”

However, he claims there is one dish he can pull off on his own: “The whole Luda can’t cook is only 99 per cent true,” he smiled. “There’s one per cent; I can cook tacos.”

Luda Can’t Cook will debut on America’s discovery+ streaming service on 25 February.

Kelly Rowland’s baby son makes music video debut – Music News

Kelly Rowland’s newborn son has made his music video debut in the promo for his mum’s new single, Black Magic.

The R&B star gave birth to Noah Jon, her second child with husband Tim Weatherspoon, on 21 January, and now he has joined his big brother Titan, six, in the visuals for the singer’s latest track, which dropped on Friday.

In the footage, a laughing Kelly wears a “Mom” necklace and holds the tot close to her chest as Titan leans in to kiss his new sibling.

The Destiny’s Child beauty also shares clips from the final days of her pregnancy, with her bulging belly turned into a work of art as it’s painted like a globe, with the word, “Love”, spelt out over Africa.

Discussing the song, Kelly says, “Black Magic expresses everything there is to feel confident, feel proud of, feel encouraged by being Black.

“I am really excited that it’s coming now, which is in the thick of Black History Month. To me, I feel like we should be celebrating 365 days a year from what we’ve been through to what we continue to fight for when it comes to equal rights, and justice.”

“To me this is a fight song,” she adds. “We’re continuing to put our magic forth so that we can put it on display for others to continue to see, even when they don’t want to see it. But I think they can’t help but see it because Black magic is effortless.”

The singer didn’t reveal when the awkward moment took place, but revealed she “didn’t realise” at first as she took the incident in her stride.

Asked about her “most embarrassing” on stage experience, she told ‘Smallzy’s Celebrity Small Talk’: “My top came off! I’m not gonna tell you which show…

“There was two layers, but the mesh top underneath was no bra, see through. But then the one on top – it’s like a belt – and it ripped off!

“I didn’t realise until I looked down, I was like, ‘Oh, nipple!’ “

She also revealed how star-struck she was getting to meet The Jonas Brothers when she was younger.

She gushed: “Oh my God, The Jonas Brothers, at Wembley stadium. They come towards me in synchronicity, they were walking exactly the same – and I think they had wind blowing up into their hair.

She added: “Remember, that was out of nowhere – no one knew me before ‘Sweet But Psycho’. That song just took its own life.”
