Diane Warren: ‘I wrote Aerosmith hit with a woman in mind’ – Music News

Aerosmith’s megahit I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing was originally written for a woman to sing.

Songwriter Diane Warren has revealed the band’s sole U.S. number one – for the 1998 movie Armageddon – was penned with a woman’s voice in mind, but she changed her mind after hearing Steven Tyler in the studio.

“I was shown the end of the movie,” Warren told Rolling Stone.

“So I went back and wrote the song… and never in a million years thought Aerosmith would do it,” she admitted.

“I kind of thought a female vocalist would end up doing it, but it’s so much more powerful with Steven Tyler – him being that vulnerable in the song really worked,” she went on, recalling: “I remember the first time hearing it and just being literally knocked off my chair with how great that was. That should have won Record of the Year (at the Grammys). That was a great record.”

Warren has also opened up about begging Cher to record her song If I Could Turn Back Time in 1989.

“I got on my hands and knees and held her leg down until she said she’d try it out,” she says. “I go, ‘Look, I’ll pay for the tracks. If it doesn’t work, then it’s all my cost. I know the song’s right for you’,” she recounted, adding: “She said, ‘I’ll do it. I’ll try it’. And that’s probably my most iconic song!”

Kelsea Ballerini decided to turn comments off on her Instagram posts because she’s “super sensitive”, and often found herself upset by cruel remarks from trolls.

The country star frequently posts on the social media site, updating fans about both her personal and professional lives.

However, fans are unable to comment on any of her posts, and that’s because Kelsea made a conscious decision to set some boundaries for herself.

“I’m super sensitive. And I think that’s a good thing. For a long time, I was reading all the comments, and I would obviously love the good ones, but I would find the bad ones and they would just hurt my feelings,” she told Bobby Bones on Monday.

“I didn’t want to get to a point where I was not posting and not sharing my life because I really like to be that person that’s an oversharer,” she explained.

“I think it’s relatable and girls need to see that. It’s either me not sharing or me sharing and not caring about what people say. And so I just turned them off,” the singer went on.

Adding that the events of the past year, including the Covid-19 pandemic, prompted her to rethink her social media strategy, the Hole in The Bottle hitmaker mused: “This past year, we’ve had all this time to kind of marinate with our own feelings and what we need and what we want. And I just think boundaries are healthy. And that’s a new boundary I have for myself.”

Britney Spears’ father loses bid to take over as pop star’s sole conservator – Music News

Britney Spears’ father has lost his bid to become her sole conservator.

A judge overruled Jamie Spears’ request at a hearing on Thursday, after he objected to the appointment of officials at the Bessemer Trust Co. as the co-conservators of the singer’s estate.

At the hearing, Jamie’s lawyer suggested a co-conservatorship would “improperly reduce” his client’s “powers over his daughter’s estate”, Variety reported, but the judge opted to continue with the arrangement.

Britney’s lawyer, who was also in court, insisted a new order is the best-case scenario for his client as it gives Jamie and Bessemer bosses “an equal division of responsibility, in the hopes that they would sit down and figure out together the best way to handle this complex estate”.

“It’s no secret that my client does not want her father as co-conservator, but we recognise that removal is a separate issue,” the attorney said.

Some of the pop star’s fans and members of the #FreeBritney movement turned up to the courthouse for the hearing, which was held just five days after the release of damning documentary Framing Britney Spears. The film examines the conservatorship.

Earlier this week, the Toxic singer’s boyfriend Sam Asghari spoke out to attack her father, calling him a “d**k” and accusing him of trying to control their relationship.

The conservatorship has been in place now for 13 years.

One shot of tequila led to Bruce Springsteen’s DWI arrest – Music News

Bruce Springsteen’s DWI arrest stemmed from a shot of tequila he accepted from a fan, according to new reports.

The music legend was arrested in November, while riding his motorcycle through Sandy Hook in his native New Jersey, minutes after taking photos with a group of fans.

Bruce, who has always maintained he is not a big drinker like his father, reportedly took a shot of tequila one of the fans offered him and rode off.

“Bruce stopped, took the pictures, then a fan offered him a shot of liquor, which he took, while sitting on his bike, which was stationary,” a source told Page Six.
“Park Police saw what happened and they immediately pulled Springsteen over as he drove away,” they went on.

Another source told a New Jersey newspaper the singer’s blood-alcohol level was .02 and the legal limit in New Jersey is .08.

He was cited for DWI, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area.

The scandal has led to Jeep bosses pulling Springsteen’s new The Middle ad, which was one of the hit commercials to air during the Super Bowl on Sunday

According to TMZ, Springsteen was cooperative throughout the run-in with police and is now due to appear in court to face the counts in the coming weeks. It’s believed to be the first such arrest for the 71-year-old.

Rebecca Black turned to therapy to help cope with early success – Music News

The 23-year-old singer shot to stardom as a teenager with her 2011 single ‘Friday’, and she relied on therapy to help navigate the trappings of fame and success.

She reflected: “I don’t know if I was as centred as I thought I was back in the day. I don’t know any centred 13-year-olds.

“But growing up? Therapy, honestly, and taking control of the way you are taking care of yourself has been a huge thing for me and one of my priorities. It’s always a changing process and everything comes in highs and lows.

“I’m not sitting over here perfect and amazing all the time, but I’ve learned to be a lot more forgiving of myself. I’m doing the best I can right now. And that’s how I think about that song – I was 13!

“I had no idea what I was doing, and that’s okay. That’s what 13-year-olds should do, try things and explore. I haven’t always looked at it that way, but now I think enough time has passed.”

Rebecca has been working on new material amid the coronavirus crisis and she can’t wait for fans to hear what she’s created.

Speaking to Billboard, she explained: “The project is a pop project and I’ll leave it at that. I’ve given myself room to experiment and play, and I’ve worked with a diverse group of collaborators.

“The thing I’ve had in my head so long is finally in these songs. I do feel a new sense of confidence. I’ve been through waves and phases, but I’m more confident now in what I make.”

Iggy Azalea wants to get a tattoo of her son Onyx – Music News

The chart-topping rap star – who confirmed Onyx’s birth via a social media post in June – has taken to Twitter to reveal she’s keen to get a permanent inking, but she’s not sure where she should have it.

She shared: “I want to get an onyx tattoo (of course) but I don’t know if I should add into my sleeve more or do it in another place.

If I did, it would make my sleeve extend into my upper arm and not be all below my elbow. I’m so torn. (sic)”
When it was suggested she should start another sleeve, Iggy replied: “I’m not going to tatt my other arm at all. (sic)”
Iggy, 30 – who has Onyx with rap star Playboi Carti – also rubbished the idea of getting the tattoo on her ankle.
She wrote: “I actually don’t have ankles I have Cankles (sic)”

Meanwhile, Iggy recently admitted that she owes her success to her mother.

The rapper credits her mother for giving her the confidence to pursue her ambitions, and she’s determined to do the same for her son.

Iggy wrote on Twitter: “The reason why I achieved anything in life is because my mom always gassed me up and I’m doing the same for my baby whatever he does I’m his #1 day one fan. (sic)”

One of Iggy’s followers subsequently observed that having supportive parents “goes a long way”.

In response, Iggy – who was born in Sydney, but moved to the US during her teens – wrote: “I agree, kids bullies me but I had confidence cause I had my mom at home telling me I was amazing & I believed her more than I believed them. (sic)”

The Weeknd’s Super Bowl Halftime Show turned into documentary – Music News

The Weeknd is taking fans behind the scenes of his Super Bowl Halftime Show spectacular in a new TV documentary.

The Blinding Lights hitmaker wowed the nearly 100 million people who tuned in around the world to watch the half-time entertainment during the American football championship game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs on 7 February, and the singer didn’t disappoint.

Now fans will get to see the months of hard work that went into putting together his 13-minute performance – produced by officials at JAY-Z’s Roc Nation firm and Jesse Collins, the first black executive producer of the event, and staged in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic – in The Show, a 90-minute film directed by Becoming’s Nadia Hallgren.

Steve Hackett’s new album is a ‘musical diary’ – Music News

The 70-year-old star has described his newest record, ‘Under a Mediterranean Sky’, as a “travelogue”, and has revealed the inspirations behind his music.

Discussing the album, Steve shared: “I just love the idea of an imaginary journey that recalls all the other actual journeys that I had made.

“It’s a travelogue, a musical diary perhaps, but it’s also a dream til we’re able to fully engage with the world again.”

Asked about his favourite place to visit in the Mediterranean, Steve told Prog magazine: “Italy is a big favourite. I’ve toured there more probably than any other region in the Mediterranean, but then I did masses of gigs in France, Spain, of course, I love it for its music and architecture and all the rest.

“Greece, I’ve travelled to more in recent years. I haven’t played there, but I’ve shot a video or two there. It’s a hugely mystical place.

“Pompeii, which I’ve visited many times, was the inspiration for the track ‘Casa Del Fauno.”

Steve was keen to do something a bit different with his new album.

And the veteran musician feels that if he loses the appetite to try something new, he “might as well throw in the towel”.

Reflecting on his approach to the record, Steve – who first rose to prominence as part of Genesis in the 1970s – said: “Rules are meant to be broken.

“If you don’t break the rules in music, you might as well throw in the towel.”
