Post Malone to headline Pokemon Day celebration concert – Music News

Post Malone is to headline a virtual concert to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pokemon.

A trailer for the virtual concert, in which the rapper/singer is transformed into a Pokemon-style video game character, has dropped and he can’t wait to perform at the special gig, which will take place online on 27 February, also known as Pokemon Day.

“I’ve been a Pokemon fan for a long time, so the opportunity to headline the Pokemon Day concert celebrating 25 years is awesome,” he said in a statement.

The virtual concert will be free to view from 7pm ET on the official Pokemon YouTube channel and Pokemon’s official Twitch channel.

When asked by Billboard what fans can expect from the show, Post said, “They’ll just have to tune in and watch! The Pokémon team put in so much work — this is one of the coolest things I’ve been a part of. There may be some surprises, too. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Last month, Katy Perry was announced as an ambassador for Pokemon’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

“Pokemon has been a constant in my life from playing the original video games on my Game Boy, to trading Pokemon TCG cards at lunch, to the adventures of catching Pokemon on the street with Pokemon GO,” the pop star said in a statement at the time. “I’ve even visited the Pokemon Cafe in Japan while on tour! It is an honour to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world.”

Pink releasing duet with daughter Willow – Music News

Pink and her daughter Willow are releasing a duet in time for Valentine’s Day.

Willow Sage Hart showed off her vocals in Pink’s first post on TikTok on Monday, as she belted out part of an original tune called Cover Me in Sunshine, and now Pink has announced the track is getting an official launch on Friday.

“We thought we’d put it out around Valentine’s Day as a big old hug and kiss to all y’all (sic),” the proud star told fans in a Twitter video.

“Cover Me In Sunshine” ft. #WillowSageHart – Available Friday 2.12 Pre-Save Now,” she wrote in an accompanying message.

Willow’s lyrics for the feelgood track include: “Cover me in sunshine/ Shower me in good times/ Tell me that the world’s been spinning/ Since the beginning and everything will be all right/ Just cover me in sunshine.”

Although the single will be Willow’s first proper release, she previously joined her mum onstage for The Disney Holiday Singalong special last year, when they performed a cover of Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire).

In addition to Willow, Pink also has a four-year-old son Jameson with her husband, Carey Hart.

Foo Fighters claim fifth Number 1 album – Music News

Foo Fighters have rocketed straight to Number 1 with their tenth studio album Medicine at Midnight.

Finishing with 42,500 chart sales – 74% of which were CD and vinyl copies – the album has outsold its six closest rivals combined. Medicine at Midnight is now the rock legends’ fifth UK Number 1 album following One By One (2002), Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (2007), Wasting Light (2011) and Concrete & Gold (2017).

Medicine at Midnight sold a whopping 10,500 copies on vinyl this week and takes pole position on the UK’s Official Vinyl Albums Chart. Foo Fighters are Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jafree.

Foo Fighters now stand in line with a host of other legendary acts including Prince, Bon Jovi, The Police and Celine Dion who also have five Number 1 albums to their name. See the acts with the most Number 1 albums on the Official Chart here.

Celebrating the news, Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters tells OfficialCharts.com:

“I would like to thank everyone for honouring us with this Number 1 record. After 25 years of being a band it still kind of blows our minds that this could actually happen and we’re very grateful and very thankful. We can’t wait to get back there to see you guys, sooner than later, I hope! We’re ready – every day we’re one step closer.

Thank you very much, it’s an honour to have this Number 1 record. See you soon!”

The Weeknd lands at Number 2 this week with The Highlights, the most streamed album of the week. The Canadian singer’s greatest hits album was released to coincide with his now viral Super Bowl performance on Sunday 7 February. The performance has also boosted his March 2020 chart-topper After Hours back into the Top 20 at Number 19.

Elsewhere in the Top 5, experimental rock outfit Black Country, New Road land at Number 4 with their debut album For The First Time (which is the bestselling album in independent record shops this week and Number 1 on the Official Record Store Chart), while Fleet Foxes’ 2020 album Shore lands at Number 5 following its release on physical formats – their third Top 5 collection.

Jessie Ware’s What’s Your Pleasure? returns to the Official Albums Chart at Number 9 following a performance of her new single Remember Where You Are on Graham Norton Show last Friday (Feb. 5). It originally debuted at Number 3 on release in June 2020. Jessie this week shared details of the album’s upcoming deluxe edition with OfficialCharts.com.

Indie folk trio The Staves’ third studio album Good Woman debuts at Number 13, their highest chart position to date. The group appeared on the latest edition of The Record Club on 10 February, discussing how challenging times and “personal weight” inspired the new album. Watch the full interview back here.

Finally, Scottish pop rock group Deacon Blue earn their 14th UK Top 40 collection with mini-album Riding On The Tide Of Love at Number 23.

Post Malone set to headline a virtual Pokemon concert – Music News

The ‘Circles’ hitmaker will perform as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the iconic animated franchise on February 27, which has been dubbed ‘Pokemon Day’.

A trailer for the free event shared on the official Pokemon YouTube channel, where the set will be streamed, features a cartoon version of the Grammy-nominated artist.

In a statement, he said: “I’ve been a Pokemon fan for a long time, so the opportunity to headline the Pokemon Day concert celebrating 25 years is awesome.”

Malone’s involvement comes after it was announced that Katy Perry is teaming up with the franchise on P25 Music, a new venture to mark the milestone.

The 36-year-old pop star – who gave birth to daughter Daisy in August – was even more keen on the “playful” collaboration now she’s a mother.

The ‘Smile’ hitmaker said: “I love being a part of anything that is playful and is good storytelling and has really good messages to share with the world. Now having a child myself, I understand that it’s so important to play. This is a continued extension of who I am.”

Katy recalled the “amazing” experience she had visiting The Pokemon Cafe in Japan in 2019.

She said: “I was pregnant when I was there actually, little did I know! It was amazing. It brought up all these wonderful childhood memories. I’ve been going to Japan since I was 17 every year and have always really loved everything that’s been created there.”

And the ‘American Idol’ judge hopes the Pokemon project gives her fans something to look forward to this year as things are so “unknown”.

She said: “In this moment of unknown, there are dependable places and characters and institutions and people, and I hope I can be one of them. That’s what I hope for in my personal self, and even in my involvement with this collab.”

Diplo sorry for playing Morgan Wallen hit after racial slur fallout – Music News

Diplo has apologised for playing a Morgan Wallen track during his Super Bowl after-party DJ set and promised to donate to the NAACP.

Country singer Wallen has been blacklisted in the music industry since he was caught on camera using the N-word with friends following a drunken night out last month.

He quickly apologised, but the backlash has continued, and Diplo was heavily criticised for playing Wallen’s 2019 track Heartless during his appearance at a party last Sunday.

Taking to Twitter, Diplo wrote, “Heartless is a old song of mine thats been in my live set for years.

“Im sorry, I didn’t mean to make anyone mad or offended by playing a song featuring Morgan. It was by no means a Political statement or a message. Jason (Isbell) is doin the right thing, Im also donating my proceeds (sic).”

Earlier on Wednesday, musician Jason Isbell announced he was donating all songwriting royalties he receives for his track Cover Me Up, which appeared on Warren’s hit record, Dangerous: The Double Album, to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Wallen has returned to social media to urge fans not to defend his actions, because he knows he “let so many people down” with his use of the racial slur, which he realises “can truly hurt a person”.

“I appreciate those who still see something in me and have defended me,” he added. “But for today, please don’t. I was wrong. It’s on me. I take ownership for this and I fully accept any penalties I’m facing.”

Wallen’s music was removed from a host of radio stations and playlists across the U.S. in the wake of the scandal, while his recording contract has also been put on hold “indefinitely”.

Jessie Ware is ‘working’ with Kylie Minogue – Music News

The ‘Spotlight’ hitmaker and the Australian pop queen “hit it off” when they recorded an episode of the former’s ‘Table Manners’ podcast last year, while they both were a part of the disco revival with their records ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’ and ‘DISCO’, respectively.

And now, Jessie, 36, has confirmed she and Kylie, 52, have started collaborating.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, she teased: “I’m working with her. It’s happening. Maybe we wouldn’t have thought to work together if we hadn’t had made similar albums? We hit it off over a halibut. Christmas cards and everything!”

Kylie let slip she was planning to hit the studio with the ‘Remember Where You Are’ hitmaker in December.

She spilled: “I’ve got to get in the studio with Jessie . That’s happening which I am wildly excited about.”

Meanwhile, after ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’ started riding up the Official UK chart again, Jessie is working on a deluxe edition of the record.

She said: “I had so many songs that didn’t make the record … but that doesn’t mean they’re not good! I wrote maybe 40 or 50 songs. I know that my next record is not going to be the same as ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’ so when I listened to them, it felt maddening that I had all these brilliant songs that I couldn’t [originally] put on the record. They fit so well in this ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’ world so it made sense to keep them for this rather than to make another record.

“So there’s some songs that didn’t make the record because I needed to tell the right story with ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’ and now actually, weirdly, the deluxe has created this new story and the new songs work really well together which is exciting. I think that if my fans liked ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’, this will keep them dancing a bit longer.”

Kacey Musgraves and Ruston Kelly’s marriage ‘just didn’t work out’ – Music News

Kacey Musgraves has opened up about her divorce from Ruston Kelly for the first time, admitting their marriage “simply didn’t work out”.

The Follow Your Arrow star filed for divorce from Ruston in July last year, after almost three years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. She had remained silent about the reasons behind the split, but has now spoken candidly in a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

“(It) just simply didn’t work out,” she said. “It’s nothing more than that. It’s two people who love each other so much, but for so many reasons, it just didn’t work. I mean, seasons change. Our season changed.”

The Grammy Award-winning singer added that since the breakdown of her relationship, she has started to question the entire concept of marriage.

“Part of me questions marriage as a whole, in general,” she mused. “I mean, I was open to it when it came into my life. I embraced it. I just have to tell myself I was brave to follow through on those feelings. But look at Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. They’re doing something right… I think I live best by myself. I think it’s OK to realise that.”

Kacey also admitted her new songs could be inspired by the breakdown of the relationship, though she promised to “honour” the love they had for each other.

Since their split, Kacey and singer-songwriter Ruston have done their best to remain friends, and frequently comment on each other’s social media posts.

Announcing the end of their marriage last year, they said in a joint statement: “The love we have for each other goes far beyond the relationship we’ve shared as husband and wife. It’s a soul connection that can never be erased. Though we are parting ways in marriage, we will remain true friends for the rest of our lives.”
