Jazz legend Chick Corea dies aged 79 – Music News

The renowned composer, pianist and bandleader sadly passed away on Tuesday (09.02.21) from “a rare form of cancer which was only discovered very recently.”

The late star’s representative said in a statement issued on Chick’s official Facebook page: “It is with great sadness we announce that on February 9th, Chick Corea passed away at the age of 79, from a rare form of cancer which was only discovered very recently.

Throughout his life and career, Chick relished in the freedom and the fun to be had in creating something new, and in playing the games that artists do.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a great mentor and friend to so many. Through his body of work and the decades he spent touring the world, he touched and inspired the lives of millions. “

Before his death, Chick penned an emotional message to his fans and loved ones.

He said: “I want to thank all of those along my journey who have helped keep the music fires burning bright. It is my hope that those who have an inkling to play, write, perform or otherwise, do so. If not for yourself then for the rest of us. It’s not only that the world needs more artists, it’s also just a lot of fun.

“And to my amazing musician friends who have been like family to me as long as I’ve known you: It has been a blessing and an honor learning from and playing with all of you. My mission has always been to bring the joy of creating anywhere I could, and to have done so with all the artists that I admire so dearly—this has been the richness of my life.”

During a career spanning more than five decades, Chick was honoured with 23 Grammy Awards and nominated 65 times, while he composed the likes of ‘Spain’, ‘500 Miles High’, and ‘La Fiesta’, which are widely considered jazz standards.

The Massachusetts-born musician replaced Herbie Hancock in Miles Davis’ group in the late 1960s, and played on his classic albums ‘In a Silent Way’ and ‘Bitches Brew’.

He then formed his own avant-garde group, Circle, before he founded Return to Forever in 1971, and the latter quickly became hugely influential in the jazz-fusion movement of the 1970s.

John Mayer, who shared a stage with Chick, has led tributes to the music legend.

The 43-year-old singer-songwriter hailed Chick as “the single greatest improvisational musician” he’s ever played with.

He wrote alongside a picture of Chick and another of him performing with him on Instagram: “Chick Corea was the single greatest improvisational musician I have ever played with. Nobody was more open, more finely tuned to the moment, changing his approach with every new offering by the musicians around him. If you hit a wrong note, he’d immediately pick it up and play it as a motif so as to say “all of this has value, whether you see it or not.” What an immeasurable loss in so many ways. My love to Gayle, his family, and the countless musicians and fans he inspired and will continue to inspire. Thank you, Chick, for the invaluable scholarship of getting to know and make music with you. May you rest as peacefully as you lived. (sic)”

While Sheila E. wrote: “I’m devastated to hear of the legendary @ChickCorea’s passing. This man changed my life thru his music and we were able to play together many times. I was very fortunate to call him my family. Chick, you are missed dearly, your music and brilliant light will live on forever. (sic)”

Marilyn Manson’s abuse accuser details dating horrors in explosive TV interview – Music News

Marilyn Manson allegedly chased his actress ex Esme Bianco around his apartment with an axe after accusing her of placing cockroaches in the walls “to mess with him”.

In a new Good Morning America interview, the former Game of Thrones actress claimed Manson started hacking away at the plasterwork to prove his point, and then he turned on her.

The rocker’s former assistant, Ashley Walters, has backed her story, telling GMA researchers she saw the singer threatening Bianco with an axe and witnessed bruises Manson is said to have left on her body.

In her candid interview with GMA on Thursday, Bianco revealed it took her seven years to realise Manson’s treatment of her during their relationship was abusive, but she stayed with her former music idol because she thought he loved her.

She also showed photos of lash marks on her back, left by a whip Manson used on her – allegedly without consent – while filming a video.

“He locked me in his bedroom, he tied me to a wooden pray kneeler, I was half-naked, and he beat me with a whip – and he filmed it,” she said.

Bianco didn’t ask Manson to stop what he was doing, adding: “I would never have dared,” but admits she feared for her life throughout the shoot.

The actress also told GMA that her ex would “hide abuse” by “doing it during sex”, stating: “he always went too far,” claiming he would bite her during intercourse: “That was 100 per cent not consensual and he would bite me until I was black and blue.”

Bianco insisted she didn’t leave Manson immediately because she didn’t realise that what was happening was “very, very wrong,” adding the rocker was “extremely manipulative”.

She eventually fled Manson’s apartment in June 2011.

Manson’s lawyer has yet to respond to Biancos claims, but the singer released a brief statement last week, after his former fiancee, Evan Rachel Wood, identified him as her abuser in a damning Instagram post.

“Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality,” Manson’s statement read, proclaiming: “My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners.”

“It’s disgusting that that is his response,” Bianco told GMA.

“That somehow we’re the ones who misconstrued the whole situation. It’s very indicative of the kind of man he is… the monster that he is,” she fumed.

The actress is still scared of Manson and terrified of “retaliation”, but feels a “massive relief” to have named her abuser, and hopes her allegations will help other victims and survivors of abuse.

“I want people who are in this situation right now to know they’re not alone and that it’s not their fault,” she urged.

Jazz legend Chick Corea dead at 79 – Music News

Jazz great Chick Corea has died at the age of 79.

The musician and composer lost his battle with a rare form of cancer on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued on his Facebook page, Corea was only diagnosed with the illness “very recently”, and he even prepared a final message for fans as he realised the end was near.

In the online post, his representatives wrote: “He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a great mentor and friend to so many.”

They shared: “though (Corea) would be the first to say that his music said more than words ever could, he nevertheless had this message for all those he knew and loved, and for all those who loved him.”

Corea’s accompanying note read: “I want to thank all of those along my journey who have helped keep the music fires burning bright.”

He went on: “It is my hope that those who have an inkling to play, write, perform or otherwise, do so. If not for yourself then for the rest of us. It’s not only that the world needs more artists, it’s also just a lot of fun.”

Praising his “amazing musician friends who have been like family to me as long as I’ve known you,” Corea added: “it has been a blessing and an honor learning from and playing with all of you. My mission has always been to bring the joy of creating anywhere I could, and to have done so with all the artists that I admire so dearly – this has been the richness of my life.”

The jazz composer rose to fame in the 1960s, working with the likes of Stan Getz and Herbie Mann.

He soon joined forces with Miles Davis and helped him embrace a more contemporary sound, exhibited on releases like B**ches Brew.

Corea also formed his own band, Return to Forever, and collaborated with musicians like vibraphonist Gary Burton, Brian Blade, and Christian McBride.

His most recent album was the live release Plays, which dropped last year.

Blake Shelton ‘can’t imagine’ his life without Gwen Stefani’s kids – Music News

Blake Shelton has become so enamoured with his fiancee Gwen Stefani’s three children, he “can’t imagine” his life without them.

The Happy Anywhere singer has grown close to Gwen’s sons Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and six-year-old Apollo ever since the musicians started dating in 2015, and although parenting as their future stepfather hasn’t been easy, he’s taken a liking to the role.

“I don’t know if it’s as hard or harder or not as hard as being an actual, biological parent, you know?” he told California radio show The Ride with Kimo & Heather.

“I have a stepfather in my life who’s one of my heroes. I love my stepfather and I look up to him and he’s like a father to me, so I have a good inspiration in my life for how to do this and the kind of stepdad I want to be. And I take it very serious (sic),” he admitted.

However, Blake makes sure he’s also able to lighten the mood when appropriate.

“I also have a blast with it, I’m not gonna lie,” the singer continued, sharing: “I don’t take it so serious that I’m not enjoying this time because I really am, especially now that we’re five years into this thing.”

“I can’t imagine my life without these kids now,” he added of the boys, who he reportedly approached for permission to propose to their mother before getting down on bended knee in October.

Gwen shares her children with her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale, but she has made her appreciation for Blake’s support as a co-parent clear after dedicating a social media post to her now fiance on Father’s Day last year.

Alongside a series of photos of the gang spending time together during the COVID crisis, she wrote: “thank u for helping me raise these boys!! #weloveyou (sic)!”

Laura Mvula is to perform live for the first time in three years – Music News

The 34-year-old singer – who previously found out she had been dropped by Sony’s RCA Victor label via email – will take part in a livestream, ‘Laura Mvula Presents… Under A Pink Moon’, on February 24th.

Fans can purchase tickets for £7.50 for the event.

The ‘Show Me Love’ hitmaker, who will also appear on ‘Later…with Jools Holland’ this year, is signed to Atlantic Records and has been working on new music.

Laura hasn’t released an album since ‘The Dreaming Room’, her second studio album, which she dropped in June 2016.

But just over six months later, the ‘Green Garden’ hitmaker was left in shock when she learned her contract with Sony was to end via a “cold and cruel” message.

She was forwarded an email, which was seven lines long, but her former manager had been told in person that her five-album deal was being terminated.

Speaking in March 2017, she said: “I didn’t see anyone, I didn’t hear anybody’s voice. I just read words. It felt so cold and cruel.

“Not even the fact I was dropped, the way that the whole thing happened. To be treated like that doesn’t feel quite just.

“First I was confused, I didn’t understand. I was always told I was such a valued part of what Sony had become today – I was an artist who was taking risks and doing things that fresh and genuinely new – I believed them.

“I guess in my head I always thought there would be a conversation, a renegotiation, but never kinda, ‘It’s over’. It’s been a huge wake up call.”

But Laura has since admitted being dropped from Sony was a liberating experience.

Speaking in 2018, she said: “I had bought into the false narrative that somehow, having a major record deal with a major label defined my career or meant that without it I didn’t know who I was.

“Looking back now, wow, I was really lost at that point.

“I realise now that Sony liberated me. It’s so exciting to be at the other end now, with all the labels wanting to sign me off the back of the last record, but me being in the position of taking my time.”

Game of Thrones actress joins Marilyn Manson abuse accusers – Music News

Game of Thrones actress Esme Bianco has joined the ranks of the women accusing Marilyn Manson of abuse, claiming her relationship with the shock rocker almost “destroyed” her.

The actress and dancer has come forward a week after Evan Rachel Wood identified Manson, real name Brian Warner, as her abuser, to detail her relationship with the Rock is Dead singer in a New York magazine expose.

Calling the rock star a “monster who almost destroyed me and almost destroyed so many women”, she alleges that during their years-long relationship, he assaulted her without consent and once chased her with an axe.

Bianco claims her relationship with Manson began in 2009, when she was 26, and alleges he first became violent with her while shooting his I Want to Kill You Like They Do in the Movies music video, whipping her and tying her up.

She moved in with him in 2011.

The 38-year-old also claims the rock star controlled her schedule, her dress code, told her when she could leave his apartment, bit her during sex without consent, and once cut her with a knife.

“I basically felt like a prisoner,” Bianco told New York. “I came and went at his pleasure. Who I spoke to was completely controlled by him. I called my family hiding in the closet.”

She eventually fled Manson’s apartment in June 2011.

Manson’s lawyer has yet to respond to Biancos claims, but after Wood’s abuse allegations last week, the rocker released a brief statement, which read: “Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners.”

Since Wood went public, more than a dozen women have come forward with damning claims about experiences with Manson, while former collaborators Trent Reznor and Wes Borland have taken aim at the rocker.

The scandal has already cost Manson two TV roles, his record label deal, his agents, and his longtime manager.

Meanwhile, Biancos attorney, Jay Ellwanger, has revealed to The Hollywood Reporter she has spoken with the FBI regarding potential human trafficking and sex crime claims.

Bruce Springsteen’s Jeep ad pulled following DWI arrest news – Music News

Bruce Springsteen’s new Jeep commercial has been pulled from the firm’s YouTube page, hours after news of the rock star’s November DWI (driving while intoxicated) bust broke.

The singer’s powerful and patriotic The Middle ad debuted online early on Sunday morning and aired during the Super Bowl hours later, becoming one of the big game’s most popular commercials.

But the clip was yanked at lunchtime on Wednesday, and fans hoping to see it were directed to a message that read: “Video unavailable. This video is private.”

The commercial has also been pulled from Jeep’s Twitter account.

Springsteen was arrested on 14 November in his home state of New Jersey and charged with DWI, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area. According to TMZ, Springsteen was cooperative throughout the run-in with police, and is now due to appear in court to face the counts in the coming weeks. It’s believed to be the first such arrest for the 71 year old.

Jeep bosses have yet to comment on the drama.
