Britney Spears working on her own documentary – Music News

Britney Spears has reportedly teamed up with a top female filmmaker to make her own documentary about her life.

The singer took to Instagram to reassure fans of her wellbeing after the controversial documentary Framing Britney Spears aired in the U.S., writing: “Each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories !!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens !!!”

The film documented 39-year-old Britney’s mental health struggles and her conservatorship, after her dad Jamie was placed in charge of her life following her breakdown in 2008, and now sources have told the New York Post’s Page Six that the mother-of-two is in the process of working on her own film, “said in her own words”.

“But under her current conservatorship, she fears her father could take control of the film to paint himself in a better light,” an insider told the outlet.

Britney has been battling to have Jamie removed from her conservatorship, with her Iranian boyfriend Sam Asghari labelling her dad a “total d**k”, writing on his Instagram Stories: “I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom.”

However, one person who won’t be weighing in on the scandal is Kevin Federline – Britney’s ex-husband and father of her two sons.

“Kevin has no involvement with regard to Britney and her attorneys asking to remove Jamie as conservator,” his family lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan told E! News. “He has no other position to state with regard to the conservatorship.”

Duke Fakir ‘heartbroken’ by loss of former fiancee Mary Wilson – Music News

The Four Tops leader Abdul ‘Duke’ Fakir has been left “truly heartbroken” by the sudden death of The Supremes star and his former fiancee Mary Wilson.

The You Can’t Hurry Love hitmaker passed away late on Monday, aged 76, and Fakir reveals her unexpected loss was all the more shocking because they had just spoken over the phone days earlier.

“She was in good spirits, said she was feeling great,” he told Billboard of what would become their final conversation. “She was working on some kind of new project, which was normal for her. She was always trying to do something different and new.”

The musicians had grown close in the early 1960s after the Four Tops signed to Motown, and he recalls becoming “instant friends” with Wilson.

“Of course, it grew into something a little more than that,” he said of their brief 1964 engagement, which ended with the stars deciding to keep to friends instead of lovers – and they remained close confidants until the end.

“We’ve been lifelong friends, dear friends,” he shared. “She was probably one of the sweetest people I ever met – so full of life, so joyful.

“She was such a sweetheart and had so much energy. So this (death) was the last thing I expected. I’m really in a state of shock.”

Foals planning to make a new record this year – Music News

The indie rockers returned with their first studio effort since 2015, ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1′ in 2019 – with’ Part 2′ put out in October that year – and frontman Yannis Philippakis has revealed he and his bandmates have started tinkering with ideas for new music, though he has no idea when a follow-up will be released.

He told NME: “I wouldn’t say that the oven has reached its proper temperature yet, but the ingredients are being gathered in the kitchen. We’ll start making a record this year, but I don’t know when it will be ready. We’re going to start putting our heads together and there are lots of exciting and promising starts.”

The band have just released stripped-back renditions of songs from the two albums as part of their long-running ‘CCTV Sessions’ and would like to tour some intimate venues playing a full ‘CCTV’ live set, while they haven’t ruled out releasing an acoustic record.

Yannis said when asked if the sessions will inform their next LP: “I think we could, but what would be really fun would be to do a small tour of small, intimate venues, old chapels and factories and just do a ‘CCTV’ live set.

“I’m not sure where we’re at with it informing the next record, but I could see us doing a record that’s more stripped-back and has more of these textures.”

Meanwhile, the ‘My Number’ hitmakers are due to embark on a UK tour in May, if it’s safe to do so amid the coronavirus pandemic.

But the 34-year-old musician admitted they are not keen on the idea of socially distanced shows, because a Foals gig is all about the “big, sweaty congregation”.

Yannis said of the pause on touring at the moment: “We’re ready to play shows. We’re really missing it. If we can, we will jump at the chance to play as soon as possible – I’m just not sure how realistic that would be. We want to be prudent about it and make sure that the shows can go ahead in the best way and be safe as well as raucous and fun.

“I don’t know how practical it would be for us to do a socially distanced show. A lot of what’s great about the Foals shows is people coming together en masse and it being something that feels unimaginable right now, which is just a big, sweaty congregation. We’ll just have to see how that goes. We’re really missing it and we can’t wait to hit the road, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

However, when they are back on stage, he added: “It’s going to be a celebration of the things that we once took for granted. We’re really going to cherish those moments.”

Halsey: Constantly looking at yourself through an Instagram filter must be ‘damaging’ – Music News

The ‘Without Me’ hitmaker recently launched her debut beauty line, About-Face, with the aim of making people “love” themselves as they are.

And Halsey has admitted she had to “make peace with her face”, because she couldn’t “control” the angle or edit of paparazzi shots of her, and she’s compared it to when people use a filter on selfies and then feel “disappointed” with what they look like in real life.

She said: “I’m exhausted with this industry of Instagram filters. It’s gotta be damaging to your brain to constantly be looking at yourself through an altered lens and being disappointed with what your face actually looks like. I know what that feels like because when I first started getting publicity of some kind, I would go out and [paparazzi would] take pictures of me. I can’t control the angle. I can’t control the lighting. I can’t control if it’s my good side or my bad side. The pictures would come out and I would just have to look at them and go, ‘Okay. That’s what I look like.’ I don’t get to change it. I have to make peace with my face …That’s what I want About-Face to be: loving and appreciating what you look like.”

The 26-year-old pop star – who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Alev Aydin – also admitted that she feels her “most confident” when she has a bald head, even though society might not deem that her “prettiest look”.

And Halsey wants to encourage her young fans to feel “brave enough” to be themselves and wear whatever make-up makes them feel happy.

She added in an interview with Byrdie.com: “I want young people to feel like they’re brave enough to leave the house with, like, lime green eyeshadow and black lipstick on.

“I have a pretty good idea of what my ‘prettiest’ look is, by social standards, but it doesn’t mean it’s what I want to look like. I definitely don’t think that my most ‘Hollywood’ look is when I have a bald head, but it’s when I feel the most confident.”

Britney Spears’ boyfriend slams singer’s dad in rare outburst – Music News

Britney Spears’ boyfriend Sam Asghari has taken aim at the pop superstar’s father in a fiery Instagram post, blasting him for “trying to control” the couple’s relationship.

Asghari has been by the singer’s side ever since meeting on the set of her 2016 music video for Slumber Party, and he has been supporting the Toxic hitmaker as she fights to have her dad, Jamie Spears, permanently removed as co-conservator of her estate.

Following the release of a new documentary, Framing Britney Spears, which delves into the musician’s rise to fame, as well as her subsequent mental health and legal struggles, and her conservatorship, Asghari insisted he’s always strived to give Britney the future she “wants and deserves”, telling People.com: “I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.”

However, on Tuesday, Asghari, who rarely goes into detail about the couple’s romance, unleashed an online attack on his girlfriend’s father, claiming he has been attempting to sabotage their relationship.

“Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way,” he wrote on his Instagram Story timeline.

“In my opinion Jamie is a total d**k,” he slammed.

The Iranian-born actor added: “I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom.”

Following his social media outburst, Asghari told TMZ he was standing by his remarks about Jamie, although he hopes the issues can be resolved.

“Once he starts treating his daughter right, then we can be on good terms,” he said, before assuring fans Britney is “doing amazing” amid the conservatorship battle.

Britney has been under the conservatorship ever since her public meltdown in 2008, and despite her efforts to have Jamie removed from the agreement, a court official recently decided to keep the legal order in place until September.

Diana Ross remembers The Supremes bandmate Mary Wilson – Music News

Diana Ross has saluted the memory of her The Supremes bandmate Mary Wilson following her death on Monday night.

The legendary singer passed away “suddenly” at her Las Vegas home, aged 76, and on Tuesday, her old classmate and fellow band co-founder Ross took to Twitter to share her sadness at the loss.

“I just woke up to this news , my condolences to you Mary’s family,” Ross wrote.

“I am reminded that each day is a gift ,I have so many wonderful memories of our time together The Supremes will live on ,in our hearts (sic),” she went on.

Ross also released a formal statement to Entertainment Tonight, saying: “I remember Mary’s joy and love during happier times and our love and years together. I recall ‘the good old days’ with a smile in my heart and a song in my heart during these changing times. I’m happy to have known her. Love and condolences to her family.”

Wilson’s death leaves Ross as the only surviving member of the original R&B icons – fellow bandmate Florence Ballard died from a heart attack in 1976, aged 32.

Ross’ comments emerge hours after Motown label founder Berry Gordy paid homage to Wilson, honouring her as “a trailblazer” and “a diva” who “will be deeply missed”.

Other tributes have also been paid by actresses Whoopi Goldberg and Pam Grier, who tweeted: “Mary Wilson co-founding member of the Supremes, was so beautiful inside. She continued to sing all over the world. So gracious. Peace be still, lady (sic).”

Phoebe Bridgers clashes with David Crosby over guitar smashing – Music News

Phoebe Bridgers has become embroiled in a social media feud with rock veteran David Crosby after he criticised her for smashing a guitar during a weekend TV performance.

Bridgers destroyed her Danelectro Dano ’56 guitar after belting out the track I Know the End for her musical debut on U.S. comedy show Saturday Night Live, and the following day, Crosby was asked for his opinion on the staged drama via Twitter.

“Pathetic,” he grumbled, prompting Bridgers to respond with a terse comment, writing: “little b**ch”.

Crosby later explained his disapproval, after followers pointed out so many of his male contemporaries in the 1960s and ’70s, including Jimi Hendrix and Pete Townshend, had done the same during their heyday.

“Guitars are for playing ..making music ….. not stupidly bashing them on a fake monitor for childish stage drama,” he posted.

“I really do NOT give a flying F if others have done it before. It’s still… STUPID,” he remarked.

Crosby refused to back down, continuing: “it’s what you do if you can’t write”, as Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea weighed in, querying: “Hendrix couldn’t write?”.

Even fellow rock veteran Peter Frampton offered up his thoughts, admitting Bridgers’ performance art had bugged him.

“It really p**sed my parents off when The Who first did this on Ready Steady Go tv in UK,” he tweeted.

“I was devastated watching the gtrs (guitars) and drums being destroyed but found it strangely intoxicating at the same time. Now I’m my parents age it really p**sed me off watching Saturday (sic),” the rocker shared.

Crosby kept going, branding Bridgers’ instrument destruction: “old, wrong, copy cat” and adding: it “looks angry, destructive, wasteful, pointless”.

Instead of letting the critiques get her down, Bridgers poked fun at the remarks, sharing a screenshot on Instagram and quipping: “got some really great feedback from my performance…!”

Britney Spears speaks out after documentary premiere – Music News

Britney Spears has broken her silence following the premiere of a powerful documentary about her life in the spotlight.

Three days after the Hulu film Framing Britney Spears premiered in the U.S., the singer took to Twitter to suggest the documentary only told a fraction of her real story, which included details about her conservatorship battle with her father Jamie Spears, who has been in control of her life and career for over a decade.

“Each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories !!!!” she wrote on Tuesday.

“We all have so many different bright beautiful lives!!!” she went on, urging: “Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens!!!!”

Britney also posted video footage of herself performing in her previous Las Vegas residency, which aired as part of the annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show at the end of 2017, and insisted she will one day return to the stage.

“Can’t believe this performance of Toxic is from 3 years ago !!!” she captioned the clip.

“I’ll always love being on stage …. but I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person ….. I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life !!!! @NYRE” she added.

Britney’s attorney has previously told court officials the pop superstar refuses to perform as long as her dad is her co-conservator, as she fights to have him permanently removed.

She was initially placed under the legal agreement following her infamous 2007 breakdown.

Hayley Williams leads fans rallying around Britney Spears following damning new documentary – Music News

Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams and Garbage’s Shirley Manson are among the stars who have had strong reactions to a powerful new Britney Spears documentary.

The pop superstar’s fans have been appalled by some of the footage in Framing Britney Spears, now out in the U.S., particularly when a paparazzo, who trailed Spears during her 2008 meltdown, claimed on camera she liked being surrounded by photographers.

And some of her more famous devotees were shocked to learn more about the singer’s conservatorship, with her father overseeing her finances and wellbeing for the past decade-plus.

“Just watched the ‘Framing Britney Spears’ documentary and have to say, there is something VERY weird, very wrong going on. #FreeBritney,” Manson tweeted, referring to the fan movement set up to highlight the way the pop star is being managed.

Williams added: “No artist today would have to endure the literal torture that media/society/utter misogynists inflicted upon her. The mental health awareness conversation, culturally, could never be where it is without the awful price she has paid.”

And, responding to a fan, who suggested many of the problems featured in the documentary still exist, she added: “i’ll say this – as an artist, my very personal experience with misogynistic journalists/media is that over the last 15 years, it’s improved.”

Meanwhile, Kacey Musgraves has encouraged her two million Instagram followers to watch Framing Britney Spears, stating: “Never has one person been so used and abandoned by every facet around her. My heart goes out to her. She has always been such an inspiration to me my whole kid/teen life. Wish she could get a re-do.”

Vanessa Carlton, Sam Smith, Hayley Kiyoko, and Liz Phair have also taken to social media after watching the film to offer their support to Britney.
