Diddy sues Sean John clothing bosses over image use – Music News

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is waging war against the new owners of his Sean John clothing company for allegedly using his image to promote the brand without his permission.

The rap mogul has filed a $25 million (£18.2 million) lawsuit against bosses at Global Brands Group USA (GBG) claiming they used his name and likeness to promote a recent collaboration with British women’s retailer, Missguided, and even reportedly provided fake quotes from Diddy expressing his support for the womenswear range.

However, Diddy, who founded the fashion label in 1998 and sold his majority stake to GBG officials in 2016, argues he knew nothing about the deal and is in no way involved.

In the legal papers, filed in New York last week and reported on by Hip Hop Wired, Diddy’s lawyer states: “The SJ/Missguided Agreement was entered into without Mr. Combs’s knowledge, approval, or consent. And Mr. Combs has never endorsed the GBG Collection, which is branded ‘sean john x missguided’ and ‘Sean John x Missguided’.”

He added: “Mr. Combs has neither granted Defendants the right to use his name, image, likeness, or persona in conjunction with the GBG Collection, nor has he agreed to make a public statement or appearance in support of the GBG Collection.”

The hip-hop superstar is seeking a jury trial for false endorsement, misappropriation of likeness, and violating his publicity rights, and is suing for damages, profits from the line, and legal fees.

Representatives for Combs or GBG have yet to comment on the court matter.

Kelly Clarkson never had ‘me time’ in her marriage – Music News

Kelly Clarkson had no “me time” in her marriage to estranged husband Brandon Blackstock.

The Since U Been Gone hitmaker was discussing relationships on her daytime U.S. programme, The Kelly Clarkson Show, on Monday, and shared that she never took time out to focus on herself while she was a wife.

“I think that sometimes you’re around each other too much,” the mum-of-two lamented of the mistake she feels many couples make.

“That’s what I think, being single now. I’m like, ‘God, I don’t think my ex and I ever had, like, me time’. I definitely didn’t and I think that’s so important.”

Kelly, who has children River, six, and four-year-old Remington with Brandon, the son of her former manager Narvel Blackstock, wed her ex in 2013. They announced their split in June.

Things took an ugly turn in December when Kelly sued Brandon of defrauding her out of millions, a claim he has since denied. Clarkson, 38, had claimed in her legal documents that 44-year-old Blackstock and his father had made an oral agreement with her in 2007, which allowed Starstruck Entertainment to perform “illegal services” as agents in California – where they did not have a license to do so.

However, Blackstock’s attorneys, Bryan J. Freedman and Jesse A. Kaplan, hit back by insisting that Blackstock and his father did not perform their duties in California, meaning they are not subject to the Talent Agencies Act, a licensing scheme that regulates talent agents.

Miley Cyrus kicks off first Big Concert for Small Business – Music News

Miley Cyrus kicked off the first Big Concert for Small Business by covering Mazzy Star’s Fade Into You after the Super Bowl.

The popstar, who headlined the first TikTok Tailgate gig before the big game, joined Alicia Keys, Tiffany Haddish, and Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan, who teamed up to perform the U.S. National Anthem at the Super Bowl, for the Verizon livestream, staged to shine a light on small business owners affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Produced by JAY-Z’s Roc Nation, the show also featured sets from Brittany Howard, Christina Aguilera, Brandi Carlile, and Luke Bryan.

It wasn’t the greatest event for host Tiffany, who struggled with a series of technical and production issues.

After introducing H.E.R., the cameras stayed on the host and she was given teleprompter notes to keep talking, which she didn’t understand.

“What the f**k does vamp mean?” she scolded as a voice off camera said, “Stall”.

“Now they asked me to vamp. I don’t know what vamp means. To me, vamp means be a vampire and/or vampirate like slowly disappear and/or elaborate. Maybe that’s the word they should’ve used? Elaborate. But let’s continue on guys.”

Later in the broadcast, Haddish added: “This has not been the smoothest running situation. Every time an act leaves the stage, they have to clean the whole stage, get all-new microphones, all new everything you have to keep in mind that some of these acts haven’t performed for nobody…

“Me personally, I’m in a studio alone, it’s cold, and I’m ready to bring the heat. But it’s cold.”

Katy Perry reflects on releasing album and having first child at the same time – Music News

Katy Perry had “the most unusual album release day” for her record Smile last year because she was still in hospital after welcoming her daughter Daisy.

The American Idol judge dropped her latest record Smile in August the day after giving birth to daughter Daisy – her first child with fiance Orlando Bloom. During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night, Katy reflected on the “rollercoaster” of that time of her life.

“I was giving birth to the greatest gift of all,” she said. “And then my album came out the next day, and I was in the hospital and I could not wipe my own butt…

“I was like, this is the most unusual album release day for me. And I love it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Katy – who sported a long brunette wig for the occasion – called baby Daisy “the best decision I’ve ever made in my life”.

She also credited her other half Orlando – who shares son Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr – for helping support her in terms of balancing a busy work life and her newborn daughter.

“I have an incredible fiance who has done this before. He has a 10-year-old son,” she smiled. “So he’s been amazing, and we’re so in love and we’re so grateful.”

Slowthai: ‘We were on shrooms. It’s like, you’ve got to refresh the mind sometimes’ – Music News

slowthai joins Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 to discuss his new song with Skepta “CANCELLED”. He tells Zane about making the song while on mushrooms in the studio, Skepta’s influence on him, and more.

slowthai Tells Apple Music About Creating “CANCELLED” feat. Skepta While on Mushrooms…

I was on shrooms, right? …But I was at a studio playing tunes, I linked a couple of my boys… Yeah, we were on shrooms. It’s like, you’ve got to refresh the mind sometimes. It gives you an insight into yourself. So we’re there, I’m with a couple boys, my engineer and Kwes, Kwes who produced “CANCELLED.”

slowthai Tells Apple Music How Skepta Helped Him Overcome Negativity…

Rocky was in London, one link Timz, my boy Bloody, Skep was there, and we were all chilling, having a laugh, but we were in a residential building so we can’t bang the music. So we’re setting up all the speakers and stuff just to have a little session. So I’m sitting down and I’m just in a negative place, I was being negative. You know when you’re just that one bad apple in the room? Yeah, the energy is off, I’m just like, “F-k everybody, like, f-k everyone.” Yeah, it’s in my head. It’s just in the back of my mind. And I’m one of them people that can push stuff to the side, but it was just weighing on me. And then Skep, he could see that I was going through it. He’s got a song called “Going through it” that helped me. But he’s like, “Yo man, this is your defining moment.” Because he is a larger than life character, Skep. He’s the best.

He’s my big bro. And he’s like, “This in your defining moment.” It’s like, “No. No, this isn’t happening. Come on.” And it’s like, he basically grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and lifted me out of that place. And then we’re there, Crush, SAMO, and Kwes just start just making this beat. And I remembered there’s like three sections on the beat… It’s such a vibe. I’m with my boys, were having a good time with it. Rocky fell asleep and then we’re like, “There.” And then it as I got to that 6:00 AM and the shrooms are starting to wear off. We were all tired. Skep must’ve dropped seat. Rocky woke up and he actually laid the verse on this. But I just wanted this to be the part two of me and Skep.

slowthai Tells Apple Music That Skepta Is Like A ‘Shaman’ To Him Musically…

He said those words and it’s like, that rings true in my head today. Every time I have a moment I think back to something, “This is your defining moment.” He’s like a shaman and he’s guiding me through this spirit road, but I’m like the energies were just there. Everything aligned even though we had to play them mad low. And I remember being like “Yo, this tune is hard.”
