Demi Lovato and Sam Fischer to release duet ‘What Other People Say’ – Music News

The 28-year-old megastar and the 29-year-old singer-songwriter have joined forces on the new track, which Sam penned before his single ‘This City’ became a global smash hit.

A press release states that the moving song is about the “feeling of being alone and not wanting to let people down”.

Demi commented: “This song is a reflection on what it’s like to lose who you truly are in an effort to please other people and society. It’s why I wanted to make this song with Sam – ultimately it’s about two humans coming together to connect and find solutions to their problems.”

Sam said: “‘What Other People Say’ is a confession, realising how far away you can get from who you are in an effort to be liked. It’s about the pressures of society and how getting caught up with the wrong things can change you.”

The pair’s duet news comes as Sam was crowned YouTube’s first-ever Artist on the Rise for 2021.

Previous recipients include Mabel, Aitch, Freya Ridings, Mahalia, Beabadoobee and Celeste.

Meanwhile, Demi revealed in January that she felt compelled to hit the studio to channel her “anger” after Donald Trump supporters rioted in Washington D.C.

The ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ singer admitted she felt “embarrassed and ashamed” after the attack on the Capitol building by protestors calling for the presidential election results to be overturned and called for the impeachment of Trump.
Demi also slammed fans asking her where her seventh studio album is in such a pivotal moment in American history, but teased “something special” is on the way following the “assault on democracy”.

In a series of tweets, she wrote: “My heart is broken. It makes me to sad to believe how naive I was to think this couldn’t possibly happen, and yet it did. Here we are. For everyone in my comments saying “where’s d7” or wanting me to sing instead of speaking up about what needs to change in this country…

THIS IS WHY I POST AS MUCH AS I DO. THIS IS WHY I CARE. THIS CANNOT HAPPEN ANY F****** MORE. I’m angry, embarrassed and ashamed.

I’m in the studio working on something special after today’s assault on democracy.

#impeachtrumptonight (sic)”
Last year, Demi released the political track, ‘Commander in Chief’, which features everything she would love to say to Trump if she had the chance.

She said: “There’s been so many times that I’ve wanted to write the President a letter or sit down with him and ask him these questions.

“And then I thought, I don’t really actually want to do that and I thought one way that I could do that is writing a song and releasing it for the whole world to hear and then he has to answer those questions to everyone and not just me.”

Oli Sykes lived with monks in Brazil as a form of spiritual ‘rehab’ – Music News

Oli Sykes lived with monks in Brazil as a form of spiritual “rehab”, after sinking into depression amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Bring Me The Horizon frontman has revealed he spent a period of around a month at a monastery with his Brazilian model wife, Alissa Salls, and “found himself” after being in a “very dark place”.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, the ‘Ludens’ rocker – who previously entered rehab in 2014, but for a Ketamine addiction – said: “For a while I just went into a very dark place, a place that I’ve been in before, but it was the start of a beautiful thing finding myself again.

“I think everyone experienced some level of this during lockdown. Even the most positive of people can’t hide from the fact that these are very dark times.

“It was depression for me, for sure, but that worst kind of depression where it’s not like you’re feeling sad but where you’re feeling nothing at all. You’re really just out of touch with your own emotions.

“A couple of hours from where Alissa’s family lives there’s actually an ashram, a Hare Krishna ashram, and they invited us to go and stay there.

“So for the best part of a month we went and lived on an ashram, without all our devices and disconnected and basically lived as if we were Hare Krishna for a month.

“We woke up at five in the morning and prayed to Krishna and sang and danced, to just connect with who we are.
“And these people are just the happiest people in the world, these monks, you go and meet them and they’re the most positive and spiritual people, and I just thought, I want a piece of that. I want to see what it’s like.”

The pair were able to completely switch off from the world, while Oli admitted he needed help with “emotional issues” and “dependency on being a musician”.

The 34-year-old singer continued: “It was like a rehab to be honest. I went to rehab a few years ago for drugs.
“But when I came here it was a detox, but from everything … emotional issues, dependency on devices, dependency on being a musician.

“I just learned how to be still and wake up and think I’ve got nothing to do today and that’s absolutely fine.”

Bring Me The Horizon’s lyrics have often mocked religion and on the band’s most recent chart-topping EP, ‘POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR’, Oli sings: “God is a s******* and we’re his rejects”, on the track ‘Dear Diary,’.

However, since his spiritual experience at the ashram, the ‘Happy Song’ hitmaker is embracing elements of religion and thinks it’s important to “believe in something higher and bigger than yourself”.

He added: “There were definitely a lot of questions I had for myself when I was there.

“I almost felt bad because I thought, if the main guru knew some of the songs I sing about God, would they want me here? I spoke to the guru and I voiced these concerns.

“I said to him I really like your principles and the way you look at stuff. They believe you’re serving God, so whatever comes your way will happen, you should just be happy and blessed by it and not always wanting more.

“I said I really like that concept and I could use that in my life to be happier.

“It’s the organised system of religion I have a problem with, the way it divides people.

“But now on a spiritual level I think it’s really important to believe in something higher and bigger than yourself.”

Roger Taylor still has his Freddie Mercury statue in his garden – Music News

The Queen drummer nabbed the memorial to his late bandmate – who was the frontman of the iconic rock band – for the grounds of his sprawling Guildford pad in Puttenham in Surrey, England, after it was removed from outside the Dominion Theatre at Tottenham Court Road in London, where The Queen musical ‘We Will Rock You’ was held, in 2014.

Asked if it’s still in his possession, Roger is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “Yes, absolutely. I said, ‘Why don’t they just put it on a lorry and we’ll put it in the garden.'”

The 71-year-old sticksman lives at Puttenham Priory with his wife Sarina Potgeiter and also has a beach house in Cornwall.

Roger had previously admitted Freddie – who died in 1991, aged 45, due to complications from AIDS – would have found the giant sculpture “hilarious”.

He said: “I have a statue of Freddie in the garden, which I love, it’s great, it’s very big. I also thought it would be very funny to have the statue there and I think Freddie would have found it hilarious. He would have found it really funny.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ rocker recently gave fans a tour around his pad, as he promoted Queen and Adam Lambert’s ‘Live Around The World’ concert DVD and CD.

In the Instagram clip, Roger said: “Hi everybody, it’s Roger here, I’m deep in the heart of Covid, God help us all, eh?
“Now look, our DVD is gonna be downloadable at the end of the month.

“If you’re really bored and you need a pick-up and you want to be really entertained by some great rock and roll and some great visuals, which I think are really so important.. Our album Live Around The World is downloadable. Do enjoy it!

“Like Adam said, put on some glitter, make some cocktails and have some fun.”

Slowthai hoping to start a family after getting engaged to Russian model Katerina – Music News

The 26-year-old rapper popped the question to his fiancee last year, and has revealed it’s always been his dream to have a child one day.

He told ES Magazine: “It’s something that I’ve always wanted. I want my kid to have a similar childhood to the one I had, because I didn’t see it as a bad thing.”

In a separate interview on Jessie Ware’s ‘Table Manners’ podcast, the ‘Ladies’ rapper shared details of his impromptu proposal and how he and his wife-to-be met on the internet.

Slowthai got down on one knee during their romantic getaway to Thailand, and didn’t even have a ring, as he insisted “we both have everything, I don’t think it’s that important.”

The Northampton-born star also admitted their relationship was strengthened by the COVID-19 lockdown and that they bonded over being musicians.

He said: “I proposed at the beginning of last year. Ah man, I’m going to get it in the neck now”

Slowthai – whose real name is Tyron Frampton – continued: “We clicked. It wasn’t like a thing of like, when you have a connection with someone and you just make each other laugh, especially in this time. This is the real test. When you’re like on lockdown with someone and it’s like you either want to kill each other or you’re just having a good time and we’ve had a laugh and I think we’re quite respectful of each other’s space like it’s tight, you’re doing your own thing, I’m doing mine. But she makes music. She was in a band in Russia and they were quite big. The way I proposed was in Thailand. We went [to] Thailand and it was like one of them things, we’re lying on a bed and the stars are shining, it was kind of impulsive more than planned out … I didn’t have a ring but I think when it’s like we both have everything, I don’t think it’s that important.”

King of the internet and rapper KSI speaks to BBC Asian Network’s Yasser tonight from 6pm, about working with Anne-Marie on their new Top 10 single ‘Don’t Play’ and the very real heartbreak that inspired the song.

Quotes from KSI are below, as well as audio clips.

KSI on Anne-Marie

KSI: “Bro, she did bits in the music video, she was full of energy. She had so much to do bro. All I did, was just like look at her every now and then, did a few rapping here and there. It was very chill for me, it was a very easy day for me. She had to do all of the work, it was crazy! And I’m out here just taking some of the credit. It is what it is.”

KSI on Heartbreak

Yasser: “I was looking at your lyrics in the song as well, KSI be honest, who broke your heart bro?”

KSI: “I ain’t gonna say bro!”

Yasser: “Is it a real person?”

KSI: “Of course!”

Yasser: “How is someone airing KSI? You own the internet!?”

KSI: “This was before I was KSI. Before KSI, I was a nerd, a loser, no-one cared about me, I got no girls.”

Yasser: “How many subscribers did you hit before you started getting the attention?”

KSI: “Even when I hit like a million subscribers, people still thought it was weird what I was doing. I was commentating over FIFA game play. It was like, what? Why are people watching you? It just makes no sense. Now, you know, obviously, your boy is KSI! If I want girls, I can get girls!”

Hear KSI’s full chat on BBC Asian Network tonight from 6pm or catch up on BBC Sounds.

AJ McLean freaked out by Scientology centre visit – Music News

Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean was turned off ever becoming a Scientologist after a strange visit to the Church’s “megacentre” in Los Angeles.

The pop star took a tour of the place shortly after it opened because he was curious about the big building that had opened in his neighbourhood.

“I was living in Los Feliz, right down the street from the megacentre of Scientology, so I was curious,” he said during an appearance on the Pretty Messed Up podcast. “I didn’t know what it was, I didn’t know anything about it. But I wanted to not go alone, so I took a friend with me.

“They brought us to this media room and they sat us down and they said, ‘Would you mind watching this short film?’ And we watched this short film – it was about 15 minutes long. Then I said, ‘OK, well, that was interesting’, and we went to leave and the door was locked. They wouldn’t let us out and they replayed the same film again… They played it three times until someone heard me knocking.”

AJ didn’t feel he and his pal were left in the locked room by accident, with him adding, “It seemed like a brainwashing technique.”

Ellie Goulding is planning to write a tell-all tome about pop star life – Music News

The ‘On My Mind’ hitmaker will release the book, ‘FITTER. CALMER. STRONGER’, in September, which will include conversations with her pals Ant Middleton and Fearne Cotton, and be packed with healthy recipes, workout routines and life advice.

But the 34-year-old singer – who is married to art dealer Caspar Jopling – already has another idea for her next book, which she teased could be a first-hand insight into the wild antics of showbiz parties and life as a pop star.

Ellie told Gaydio: “Some of the best parties are in LA because you look around and you’re like, ‘There is that person and there is that person’.

“Then someone will give an impromptu performance. And then strippers will start walking in. I have been a good voyeur of everything going on.

“I definitely have a lot to write a good book one day.”

Meanwhile, the chart-topper and now-author recently revealed she would like to dabble in acting.

The ‘Burn’ hitmaker would love to star in a play on London’s West End, because she enjoyed acting as a child and thinks she has the “confidence” now to get up on stage in a theatre.

She said: “I acted a lot when I was young and I really enjoyed it. I loved playing different characters. It’s probably a very different kind of confidence from being on stage. But I’d like to see if I’ve still got it.

“I would probably be in a play. I’ve seen a lot of plays in the last couple of years in London and I’d like to start there.
“I don’t think it would be the right thing to just go and do a blockbuster film.”

Ellie says she looks up to actress Julia Davis – who held roles in British TV shows ‘Gavin & Stacey’ and ‘Nighty Night’ – and would love to act in a “dark comedy” alongside the likes of Ruth Jones and Steve Coogan.

She added: “My hero is Julia Davis from ‘Nighty Night’. She used to work with Ruth Jones and Steve Coogan and all those guys. I’d love to be in some dark comedy or something like that.”

But Ellie’s acting dream doesn’t mean she’ll leave her music career behind, as she says she’s “happy to keep making music”, and plans to get more “experimental” with her sound in the future.

She said last year: “I am happy to keep making music, I am in a position where I love to make experimental music.
“But I also get a thrill from making pop music that will be popular and will be on the radio.

“I’ve got some collaborations coming out and I wrote a little bit in lockdown.

“I had a couple of really good studio sessions. I did get to write some songs but I was trying to write more upbeat music instead of reflecting on the times.

“I could have written about how surreal and challenging it all was, but I decided to write something a bit more upbeat, which I did.”

Charli XCX remembers ‘amazing’ SOPHIE in heartfelt tribute – Music News

Charli XCX has offered up a heartbreaking tribute to her frequent collaborator SOPHIE.

The Grammy-nominated experimental pop star, also known as Sophie Xeon, passed away following an accident in Athens, Greece, on Saturday, and Charli paid tribute to her pal on social media on Tuesday, calling the 34-year-old “such an amazing person who completely changed my life”.

“There are so many memories, so many small details, so many different views and incredible feelings and stories,” Charli wrote. “It’s impossible to summarize the journey I went on with Sophie.

“Even the most insignificant things felt enormous. I can’t explain how I feel and I can’t encapsulate what a unique person she was in one small social media post. I will honor Sophie in my own time personally, in my grief, through my memories, through my work, through writing things only I will read.

“She taught me so much about myself without ever realizing. I wish I had told her more how special she was, not just her music, but her as a person. I love you and I will never forget you Sophie.”

A senior Athens police official recently confirmed to MailOnline that the Scottish musician fell from the rooftop of a three-storey building while trying to take a picture of the full moon.

SOPHIE produced Charli’s 2016 EP Vroom Vroom, among other projects.

Sinead O’Connor sends out mysterious plea for son after ‘hideous day from hell’ – Music News

Sinead O’Connor has asked fans and followers to pray for her 16-year-old son, Shane, following a “hideous day from hell”.

The singer took to Twitter and made the plea without expanding on what was going on at home.

“Any spare prayers out there, pls (please) stick one in for my son, Shane. The very light of my life. Hideous day from hell,” she wrote.

It’s not the first time Sinead, who has changed her name to Shuhada’ Sadaqat, has urged fans to pray for the teenager on Twitter – in 2019 she sent out a cry for help after her son from her romance with musician Donal Lunny went missing from his home in Dublin, Ireland.

He was later located safe and well.

Reaching out at the time, the Nothing Compares 2 U hitmaker wrote: “My sweet 14-year-old son has been going missing a lot and is currently missing for the last two days. If you are a parent in whose house he has been staying or is staying, please call Dundrum Gardai (police). Not calling them is not helping him.”
