JAY-Z auctioning off rare cognac to benefit Shawn Carter Foundation – Music News

JAY-Z is to auction off a rare cognac bottle to benefit his Shawn Carter Foundation.

He has teamed up with bosses at D’usse Cognac to sell off a luxury D’usse 1969 Anniversaire Limited Edition bottle to boost funds that support professional development and entrepreneurship workshops for students.

The decades-old cognac is worth $10,000 (£7,100) and the bottle up for grabs features a 24-karat gold foil around the neck, a diamond decanter design encased in a leather box, and an engraved signature from JAY-Z.

The rapper and D’usse’s cellar master Michel Casavecchia discovered the bottle in France and agreed to save it for a special occasion.

“When our Cellar Master, Michel Casavecchia, discovered the aged liquid at the Chateau de Cognac and explained how truly one of a kind it is, it was important to me to honor it by doing something that would celebrate its singularity,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “Once that barrel is emptied, there’s no way the liquid can be recreated.

“The whole process behind the 1969 Anniversaire collection reminded me why I got involved in the spirits industry in the first place – to create something that will stand the test of time. It means a lot that we’re finally able to share the D’USSE 1969 Anniversaire Limited Edition with the rest of the world, and we’re proud to auction the first bottle in the collection with Sotheby’s to benefit the Shawn Carter Foundation.”

Bidding begins on Monday and the highest bid will earn the bottle at the Sotheby’s Finest & Rarest Spirits auction on 13 March. More bottles will go on sale in cities across America in May.

Billie Eilish had to ‘figure out’ how to avoid depression while on tour – Music News

The 19-year-old star has admitted to struggling with feelings of loneliness during her time on the road.

She shared: “I go in my room and I sit there, in silence. You know, you have to be in a certain mindset to be okay with that but … you know, for a period of time it was really hard for me.

“I had to kind of figure out how I could not be depressed and just be like, ‘Oh my god, I just did this beautiful show, amazing show…’ and I’m going into my green room and I’m sitting alone and waiting for a reply from whoever I cared more about than my show – it’s ridiculous.”

Billie thinks she used to take touring for granted.

But now that she’s unable to tour because of the coronavirus pandemic, Billie is desperate to head out on the road again.

The ‘Bad Guy’ hitmaker told Apple TV: “You just take things for granted and now, it just makes me want to scream because I can’t even do shows.”

Meanwhile, Billie previously admitted she feared she would never achieve her dream of stardom.

She recalled: “I was 12, I think, and I was sitting in the nosebleed seats in ‘Matilda’, the musical in New York, on Broadway. I was miserable. I was like, ‘I don’t care about musicals. Why am I here?’

“I remember just falling in love with what I was watching … I was completely against the idea of it, and I just loved it. I remember at the end when everyone was bowing and then little Matilda got up, and everyone stood up in the crowd, and everyone was cheering. I remember a tear rolling down my cheek, because all I’ve ever wanted is to be on a stage and have people cheering for me.”

Celeste: ‘I wanted songs to exist for just the reasons of being true to the music’ – Music News

On this week’s episode of Elton John’s Rocket Hour on Apple Music 1, Elton chats with rising singer Celeste about her debut album ‘Not Your Muse,’ charting at number 1 in the UK.

Celeste on creative integrity and making the album her way

‘I feel a sense of accomplishment in the fact that I managed to do most of it my way. And of course, I came across moments of give and take and compromise and finding that middle ground with my label, where they had songs that needed to do a certain job. And then I wanted songs to exist for just the reasons of being true to the music that I’m interested in. And so I feel proud that eventually an album that is the majority of songs, which have come from a place of real honesty and feeling like I’ve maintained my integrity in a commercial sense.’

Elton John’s advice to Celeste

‘I would say that your instincts are absolutely right because I don’t think you are… And I read an interview with you in The Guardian and I don’t think you are necessarily a chart person. It’s nice to be in the chart, but what you have ahead of you. But I think after the album’s been to number one, you should do what you want to do. Your instincts are right. You know what you want to sing. You know what you can sing best and what brings out the best in you. You’re a young artist, it will come. This is your first record. Just soak it in, be proud. And then as the next record comes, you can be more assertive about what you want, but the album is fantastic on its own merits anyway. ‘

Celeste on the delay in releasing the album and making use of that extra time

‘It has taken a really long time. But I think actually in this extra space last year, when everything happened with Coronavirus and I wasn’t able to actually go into the studio because I worked with my band, it ended up being 12 of us in the studio with the engineers and the producer. So when all of that happened, we just weren’t allowed to go in. And so I had an extra four months to actually look at the songs that I’d already started and then think really what’s missing and actually have time to focus on that. And purely that without all of the other manic stuff that can come with, like performing and traveling and all of that. So I felt quite blessed.’

Celeste on missing touring

‘There’s so much more spontaneity in the live show. I tried to bring that into making the album by having a live room set up and bringing all my band that I play my shows into the process, but it was much further on I’d already written the songs and they were demos and I took it to the band, but I really miss playing shows. And I just can’t wait until we can just let loose, basically.’

Elton John on Celeste’s various influences

Elton John: ‘I hear so many different influences. You’re like a sponge. You aren’t just influenced by soul music your influenced by other types of music. And that shows on this album. Did you ever like Minnie Riperton?’

Celeste: ‘Oh, I absolutely love Minnie Riperton. Yeah.’

Elton John: ‘I was in love with Minnie Riperton. She made so many great records with Charles Stepney at Chess Records and with Rotary Connection and then on her own. And I can hear a little bit of that in you. I can hear so much in you. And as I say, you’re just a little snowdrop coming through the earth and you’ll soon be growing into an oak tree and that you have a huge career ahead of you. What Celeste wants to sing will bring out the best in Celeste and I know that. I don’t have any worries about you whatsoever. But, in meantime you have a number one record and there’s a market for people who want great singers singing great songs. You’ve proved it. It can be jazz. It can be anything you want to do, just be Celeste. And I’m so impressed with what you do. I’m so impressed with you.’

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak form new band Silk Sonic – Music News

The pair have teamed up to record an album, which appears to be called ‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’, and the first tune from the record – which also features “special guest host” Bootsy Collins – will be released on March 5th.

Bruno wrote on Twitter: “We locked in and made an album. The band’s called Silk Sonic. First song drops next Friday 3/5. (sic)”

Rapper Anderson tweeted: “WE MADE AN ALBUM!! YALL GET THE FIRST SONG NEXT FRIDAY 3/5!! ROCKET EMOJIS AND ALL THAT!!! (sic)”

Big Sean replied: “Yes!!!!! So this what u was talking bout “another album I’m doing” [laughing emoji] (sic)”
Bruno and Anderson are no strangers to working together, after they toured with each other on the 35-year-old singer’s ’24K Magic World Tour’ in 2017.

There was speculation at the time that the pair had worked on new material with Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers and a member of Disclosure, after a video emerged on social media of the quartet at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London.

Bruno hasn’t dropped an album since 2016’s ’24K Magic’.

The ‘That’s What I Like’ hitmaker teamed up with Ed Sheeran and Chris Stapleton for single ‘Blow’ in 2019, which appeared on Ed’s ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ album, and in the same year he released song ‘Please Me’ with Cardi B.

Anderson, 35 – whose real name is Brandon Paak Anderson – dropped his fourth studio album, ‘Ventura’, in 2019, a follow up to ‘Oxnard’, ‘Malibu’, and his 2014 debut record ‘Venice’.

Jamie Spears’ lawyer: ‘My client is not the villain in Britney conservatorship battle’ – Music News

Jamie Spears’ lawyer has broken her silence about her client’s battle to keep his position as his daughter’s conservator amid a wave of opposition from fans and the #FreeBritney movement.

Vivian Thoreen appeared on Good Morning America on Thursday to set the record straight and defend Jamie’s actions, insisting he has been incorrectly vilified in the media as the bad guy.

“I understand that every story needs a villain, but people have it so wrong here,” she said.

“This is a story about a fiercely loving, dedicated and loyal father who rescued his daughter from a life-threatening situation. People were harming her and they were exploiting her. Jamie saved Britney’s life,” she explained.

Jamie, who has been in charge of Britney’s welfare and finances since she suffered a breakdown in 2008, has attracted negative press following the debut of the hard-hitting documentary Framing Britney Spears this month. In it, he was depicted as a controlling dad, who doesn’t always have the Toxic singer’s best interests at heart.

But Thoreen insisted Britney is still very much in control of her life.

“Britney makes decisions all the time,” she said, noting: “If she wants to perform, if she wants to record an album, if she wants her name and likeness used, or if she just wants to live her life like a normal person, Jamie collaborates with Britney to make that happen.”

The attorney noted that Jamie had assisted Britney with regaining custody of her children and wrested her finances back from disaster.

“And he’s created a safe environment for her to live her life the way she wants, away from the media that cause her so much pain,” she went on.

Thoreen also revealed the Spears family held a secret summit meeting in their native Louisiana last year, and despite reports to the contrary, Jamie was never asked to step aside.

“Jamie loves his daughter and like any other family, issues come up from time to time, but this in no way takes away from the love and support that they have for each other,” she added.
