Taylor Momsen slams sexism in rock music – Music News

The former ‘Gossip Girl’ actress fronts rock band The Pretty Reckless and admits she has always been told about “misogyny and sexism in music” but she feels it should just be genderless.

She said: “People have been telling me for years that there is misogyny and sexism in music. I think the older I’ve gotten, the more I can look back on certain situations. Maybe someone said something to me that I took as a compliment at the time, and I look back and realise that it was a misogynistic comment that wouldn’t be considered PC now, but I never felt that in an aggressive way.”

And the ‘Death by Rock and Roll’ hitmaker thinks music should just be judged on its own, rather than on the gender of the person who sings the track.

Speaking to The Forty-Five, she added: “You should judge music simply on what’s the best song/who’s the best singer. That should have nothing to do with your sex or gender … Good people are good people, and good musicians are good musicians - it’s as basic as that.”

And the 27-year-old actress turned musician revealed most of her idols growing up were men – including John Lennon and Chris Cornell – but she insists it wasn’t because they were men.

Speaking about her music taste, she shared: “My idols were men, and it’s not because they were men; it’s just because they wrote the best songs. I grew up worshipping John Lennon and The Beatles, and Chris Cornell and Soundgarden – it’s not because of what was going on in their pants, it’s because I connected to what they were saying and what they were emoting.”

Charese Fruge, Alex Fresh

In this week’s ALL ACCESS “WOMEN TO WATCH” column, MC MEDIA Principal CHARESE FRUGE talks to syndicated THE JUBAL SHOW co-host ALEX FRESH.

Sharing her thoughts on being local in a syndicated role FRESH mused, “I think the key to remaining ‘local’ is to remember that being ‘local’ doesn’t necessarily mean talking about city streets or landmarks. Thanks to technology and innovation we live in a global society, so staying relevant to the audience you’re performing to is just that… be relevant. The broadcast industry now has a new ‘local’ and it’s simply changing the mindset to realize that there is nothing more ‘local’ than connecting directly to the people’s lives who you’re servicing. Along with tailoring content that resonates directly with what your audience is going through, or with their lifestyle there’s an art to generality if you talk about ‘local’ things that everybody deals with.”

In ALL ACCESS’ “WOMEN TO WATCH,” CHARESE FRUGE shares success stories with women from every aspect of our businesses every week. Her latest with ALEX FRESH is here.

Liam Payne among stars mourning death of Captain Tom Moore – Music News

Liam Payne and Tony Bennett have paid tribute to British army veteran and fundraising hero Captain Tom Moore following his death on Tuesday.

The 100-year-old had been hospitalised with COVID-19 symptoms on Sunday, and his family shared the news of his loss two days later.

Captain Tom, as he was affectionately known, became beloved for raising almost $45 million (£33 million) for Britain’s struggling National Health Service last year by walking 100 laps of his garden, and a string of celebrity fans took to social media following the news of his passing to salute his memory.

“What an amazing life this man lead (sic), may he continue to be an inspiration to us all. Rest in peace Captain,” wrote Liam Payne, while crooner Tony Bennett, who went public with his Alzheimer’s diagnosis on Monday, shared: “Saddened to hear of Captain Tom’s passing.”

Opera star Katherine Jenkins tweeted: “Tomorrow will be a good day because of how brightly you shone in all our lives. Thank you for bringing us hope and strength. An angel amongst the angels. RIP Captain Sir Tom @captaintommoore”.

“Desperately sad news. A hero in every sense of the word,” mourned Harry Potter castmember Matthew Lewis, as actor and Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp added: “What a man! @captaintommoore we will all miss you, wether (sic) we got to know you personally or not. You have become part of our lives!!! My love goes out to all your family! Rest in Peace!!!”

And there was also a Twitter message shared on the royal family’s official profile, relaying Queen Elizabeth II’s condolences after awarding him a knighthood last summer.

“The Queen is sending a private message of condolence to the family of Captain Sir Tom Moore,” representatives revealed.

“Her Majesty very much enjoyed meeting Captain Sir Tom and his family at Windsor last year. Her thoughts and those of the Royal Family are with them.”

Nick Jonas becomes an old man in new Super Bowl ad for diabetes breakthrough – Music News

Nick Jonas will be selling the benefits of a new diabetes monitoring device in a high-tech Super Bowl ad.

The Jonas Brothers star transforms himself into an old man with a snap of his fingers in the commercial to show how far technology has come, while diabetes sufferers like himself are still pricking their fingers to get a blood sample to test insulin levels.

Nick then endorses Dexcom G6, a glucose monitoring system, which uses a sensor wire inserted under the skin that transmits wireless data.

“Drones deliver packages, and people with diabetes are still pricking their fingers? What?” Jonas, who has been living with type 1 diabetes since 2005, asks in the ad.

This year’s Super Bowl ads will also feature Hollywood couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis flogging Cheetos, Lenny Kravitz selling Stella Artois, and Dolly Parton singing the praises of Squarespace.

On Tuesday, 28-year-old Jonas tweeted a link to his Dexcom ad and wrote he was: “so pumped to watch the big game this Sunday and start a conversation about a better way to manage diabetes”.

The singer, who is married to actress Priyanka Chopra, has been proactive about his health throughout the coronavirus pandemic, with the couple hunkering down early on in the crisis.

“Nick is a Type 1 diabetic, so we felt it was important to go into quarantine almost immediately,” Chopra told Vogue last year.

Marilyn Manson dropped by talent agents as he’s cut from TV shows – Music News

Marilyn Manson has been dropped by his talent agents and cut from TV shows American Gods and Creepshow following abuse allegations from his ex-fiancee Evan Rachel Wood.

Just a day after the shock rocker was dumped by his label bosses at Loma Vista Recordings, executives at Creative Artists Agency – who also represent Wood – have chosen to cut ties with the musician-turned-actor, too, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The news emerges as TV officials move to scrub Manson from upcoming projects, with his last appearance as a recurring character in an upcoming episode of fantasy drama series American Gods set to be cut from the show.

“Due to the allegations made against Marilyn Manson, we have decided to remove his performance from the remaining episode he is in, scheduled to air later this season,” network officials at Starz told Deadline.

“Starz stands unequivocally with all victims and survivors of abuse,” they added.

Likewise, chiefs at AMC’s Shudder have ditched Manson from horror anthology Creepshow’s second season.

The Personal Jesus singer, real name Brian Warner, hit headlines on Monday when Wood went public with the name of her abuser, accusing him of “brainwashing” her and “manipulating” her “into submission” during their years-long relationship, which began when she was 18 and he was 36.

A number of other women have since also come forward with similar allegations of abuse, but on Tuesday, Manson fired back at the claims, branding the statements “horrible distortions of reality”.

Post Malone is convinced run of bad luck stems from Dybbuk box encounter – Music News

Post Malone fears he’s cursed after touching the world’s most haunted object.

The rapper has experienced a run of bad luck ever since appearing on TV show Ghost Adventures in 2018, when he visited Zak Bagans’ Haunted Museum in Las Vegas.

Bagans touched a Dybbuk box, which many believe contains powerful evil spirits, while the Circles hitmaker was touching his shoulder, and Post Malone is convinced he has been dogged by bad luck ever since.

Two months after filming the show, Malone was involved in an emergency landing when his private jet’s wheels were damaged in-flight and, a month later, he almost lost his life in a high-speed car crash. He was also the target of a home invasion.

“After we opened up this creepy Dybbuk box, I got in a car accident, I almost had a plane wreck, my house got broken into – all that type of stuff,” he told Late Night With Seth Meyers.

“Within a month’s time. It was really, really odd stuff,” he went on.

The rapper added he had “always had an interest in” unexplained phenomena, revealing to Meyers that he also thought he had seen a UFO before.

“Here in Utah, things are creepy if you look up into the sky,” he explained, sharing: “sometimes I just go out at like 4am with night vision goggles and just look up at the sky and see if we can see anything.”

Miley Cyrus keen to sing at Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s wedding – Music News

Miley Cyrus has offered to be the wedding singer during Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s big day.

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker proposed the idea to Gwen via Twitter after the Hollaback Girl star gushed about Miley’s recent Tiny Desk (Home) concert for America’s National Public Radio.

“Talented geeezzzz (sic),” the rocker posted on Sunday about the performance, prompting Miley to share a tongue-in-cheek response: “When my heros tweet me I get horny (sic).”

“Omg (oh my God) your crazy (sic)!! blushing…,” Gwen replied, before the pop superstar tried to invite herself to the celebrity wedding.

Miley tweeted, “ALSO @gwenstefani @blakeshelton I’ll be your wedding singer! I promise to be on my best behavior. Or worst. whatever you want! It’s your special day! Cheers to loving you both almost as much as you love each other!”

And Gwen didn’t turn down the offer, with her writing back, “Thanks puppy”.

However, Miley may face competition from Adam Levine, as his close pal Blake previously admitted he would love for the rocker’s band, Maroon 5, to entertain guests when he ties the knot with the No Doubt star.

The couple became engaged in October, but has no plans to start organising the big day until the end of the Covid-19 crisis is in sight.

Sir Tom Jones feels for musicians just starting out unable to play live – Music News

Sir Tom Jones feels for musicians just starting out, who haven’t been able to play concerts amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 80-year-old music legend admitted nothing compares to the feeling of playing to a live audience, and said it must be so “stifling” for young aspiring artists who have had the opportunity to perform to a crowd taken from them during the global health crisis.

In an interview with Clash, the ‘Not Unusual’ hitmaker said: “I actually feel sorry more for young people who are trying to start off and get some experience from doing live shows. It’s all very well being in your front room making videos and then getting straight on to television – like sometimes it happens on ‘The Voice’, where they’ve never been onstage before. So this COVID thing, it’s really stifling singers and bands who want to get out there, and get some experience, and get the feedback from the people. And they can’t get that at the moment.

I know what that feels like. At least I know what I’m missing … but some of these kids don’t know yet. They haven’t had the opportunity to experience it.”

Elsewhere, the ‘Sex Bomb’ hitmaker – who will release his new album, ‘Surrounded By Time’, in April – admitted he’s “always changing” as he never wants to repeat himself.

When asked if it’s natural for him to keep looking for his next challenge, he replied: “Yes it is. Even when we do the hits, I’ve changed the arrangements on them. I don’t just copy what I’ve done. I don’t do ‘Delilah’ the same way as when we recorded it – we start it off as a ballad now. And then you realise what a good song it is – that’s the sign of a real good song, when you slow it down and do it in a good way. You think: s***, this is a meaningful lyric here! It takes on a different thing.

I’m always changing. Even if people want the hits – and rightfully so, I understand that – I can match that duty to the public by shifting them around. And I’ve never had any complaints. No one ever comes up to me and says: oh, you don’t do ‘Delilah’ the same way! And that, again, is learning … and it only comes with time. And that’s why we called the album ‘Surrounded By Time’ – it’s incredibly important.”
