Framing Britney Spears documentary contributors launching new podcast – Music News

Babs Gray and Tess Barker, two of the contributors from the controversial Framing Britney Spears documentary, are gearing up to launch a new podcast.

The New York Times Presents film, which explained Britney’s current state and the conservatorship she is battling, aired last week and quickly became a viral sensation, with fans flocking to social media to promote the #FreeBritney movement, which launched last year amid concerns for the singer’s wellbeing.

And hot on the heels of the success of the documentary, contributors Gray and Barker are preparing to further investigate Britney’s situation in the upcoming podcast docuseries.

According to editors at Deadline, the series will feature interviews with people involved with Britney’s case, including the paralegal who left an anonymous tip that was mentioned in Framing Britney Spears.

Gray and Barker are no strangers to the podcast world – they previously teamed up on Britney’s Gram, a podcast in which they analysed possible meanings behind the mother-of-twos social media posts.

The new series is being produced for Stitcher’s Witness Docs department, and will launch later this year.

Taylor Swift completes re-recording Fearless – Music News

Taylor Swift has finished re-recording Fearless as part of her ongoing effort to re-record her first six albums after the master recordings were sold by her former record label.

The singer announced on Good Morning America on Thursday that her 2008 album is the first in a series of full-album remakes she vowed to create after failing to acquire her master recordings, which were initially bought by Scooter Braun, sparking a bitter row between the music icon and the mogul.

Fearless: Taylor’s Version will include six never-before-heard tracks, and the single, Love Story (Taylor’s Version), will be released on Thursday at midnight, mirroring the lead single from the original album.

“I have now finished re-recording all of Fearless which will be coming out soon,” Taylor said on GMA. “My version of Fearless will have 26 songs on it, because I’ve decided to add songs from the vault, which are songs that almost made the Fearless album, but I’ve now gone back and recorded those so that everyone will be able to hear not only songs that made the album but the songs that almost made it. The full picture.”

As well as appearing on GMA, the singer also updated fans about the new release on her social media.

“Artists should own their own work for so many reasons, but the most screamingly obvious one is that the artist is the only one who really knows that body of work,” she wrote. “For example, only I know which songs I wrote that almost made the Fearless album. Songs I absolutely adored, but were held back for different reasons (don’t want too many breakup songs, don’t want too many down tempo songs, can’t fit that many songs on a physical CD).

“I’ve decided I want you to have the whole story, see the entire vivid picture, and let you into the entire dreamscape that is my ‘Fearless’ album. That’s why I’ve chosen to include 6 never before released songs on my version of this album, written when I was between the ages of 16 and 18. These were the ones it killed me to leave behind.”

Although Taylor didn’t share a release date for the project, fans quickly picked up on the fact that capitalised letters in her social media message spell out “APRIL NINTH”.

Fearless won the singer her first Grammy Award for Album of a Year, a feat she later repeated with 1989.

Justin Bieber set to play the first-ever TikTok concert – Music News

The ‘Yummy’ hitmaker will perform songs from his 2013 digital-only compilation album ‘Journals’ as part of ‘Journals Live From The Drew House’ live-stream on Valentine’s Day (14.02.21) in the US, which is 2am GMT on February 15, with UK fans able to tune in to see it again from 7pm GMT on February 16.

Justin – who has 19.6 million followers on TikTok – said: “I’m excited to bring this show to life. ‘Journals’ is one of my favourite projects and I’ve never performed it live. I’m grateful to TikTok for helping me to bring this show to everyone on Valentine’s Day.”

Meanwhile, the Grammy-winner recently gave an update on the progress of his sixth studio album.

The 26-year-old superstar shared snaps from the studio across Instagram and teased fans that he’s got to the stage of picking the track-listing for the LP.

Alongside one picture of him staring at sheets of paper, he wrote: “going over track listing for the album. (sic)’
The ‘What Do You Mean?’ hitmaker also captioned a black and white shot of him with his mouth wide open: “how this album makes me feel (sic).”

Justin released his most recent record, ‘Changes’, last February, and he has since kicked off his “new era” with singles ‘Holy’, ‘Lonely’ and ‘Anyone’.

In December, he teamed up with the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir to release a charity rendition of his and Chance the Rapper’s mega-hit ‘Holy’, in a bid to land the much coveted Christmas number one spot on the UK charts.

But the tune was by beaten by YouTube stars and charity campaigners, LadBaby, whose song ‘Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ – a cover of Journey’s 1981 hit ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ – hit the top spot.

The collaboration came after Justin was beaten to the Christmas number one in 2015 by the choir’s charity single, ‘A Bridge Over You’.

The ‘Sorry’ hitmaker had encouraged his millions of Twitter followers at the time to buy their song in order to help it reach the top of the chart ahead of his own single ‘Love Yourself’.

He also appeared on ‘Monster’ from fellow Canadian megastar Shawn Mendes’ album ‘Wonder’ last year.

Alice Cooper has had his COVID-19 jab – Music News

The ‘Poison’ hitmaker, 73, has revealed he and his wife, Sheryl, 64, have both previously had coronavirus, and he’s urged everyone to have their vaccine when their time comes.

The couple had their jab at an immunisation centre in Phoenix, Arizona, set up by non-profit organisation, Team Rubicon, that utilises the skills of military veterans to “serve communities and to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises.”

In a video shared on Team Rubicon’s Twitter page just after having a dose of the vaccine, Alice said: “We already had COVID but we’re getting vaccinated anyway.

“Everyone out here has been really nice and you don’t feel like you’re in danger of anything. So come on out. If you haven’t been vaccinated, come on out.”

His dancer spouse, Sheryl, added that it was “painless”.

Meanwhile, the rocker recently released a free single to mark his birthday.

Alice dropped ‘Social Debris’ as a “gift to Detroit, to his fans and to himself” on 73rd birthday February 4.

He said: “The single ‘Social Debris’ is a gift to Detroit, to my fans and to myself. The track was written by the original Alice Cooper band. We never thought that we would ever fit in; the Alice Cooper band didn’t fit in with anybody, because we were doing things that no other band did. We didn’t fit in with the folk scene, we didn’t fit in with the metal scene, we really didn’t fit in with anything that was going on at that time. We just always felt like we were outsiders. We felt like we were social debris, we were in our own little world. So ‘Social Debris’ was just the original band writing a song about us, essentially. And it came out sounding like it belonged in 1971. That’s just the original band – you can’t change that, it’s great.”

The was available for free for 24 hours from the artist’s website.

What’s more, Alice revealed his upcoming album, ‘Detroit Stories’, will be a celebration of Detroit rock.

He added: “Detroit was Heavy Rock central then. You’d play the Eastown and it would be Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, the Stooges and the Who, for $4! The next weekend at the Grande it was MC5, Brownsville Station and Fleetwood Mac, or Savoy Brown or the Small Faces.

“You couldn’t be a soft-rock band or you’d get your a** kicked … After not fitting in anywhere in the US (musically or image wise) Detroit was the only place that recognised the Alice Cooper guitar driven, hard rock sound and our crazy stage show. Detroit was a haven for the outcasts. And when they found out I was born in East Detroit … we were home.”

Pink and her daughter Willow Sage Hart to release viral duet ‘Cover Me In Sunshine’ – Music News

The ‘Who Knew’ hitmaker made her debut on TikTok with her nine-year-old daughter – who she has with husband Carey Hart – two days ago, with Willow singing a snippet of the original song in a clip on Pink’s official page on the video sharing platform, and it has since been played over four million times.

Now, the duo have announced the official release of the track on Friday (12.02.21).

The 41-year-old pop legend – who also has son Jameson Moon Hart, four, with her spouse – announced on Twitter: ““Cover Me In Sunshine” ft. #WillowSageHart – Available Friday 2.12 Pre-Save Now. (sic)”

In an accompanying video message, she said: “We thought we’d put it out around Valentine’s Day as a big old hug and kiss to all y’all.”

In the original video, Willow said: “Or I could just sing ‘Cover Me in Sunshine’.”

She then belts out: “Cover me in sunshine/ Shower me in good times/ Tell me that the world’s been spinning/ Since the beginning and everything will be all right/ Just cover me in sunshine.”

Willow had previously shown off her impressive vocal skills when the pair performed a sweet cover of ‘The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)’ by Nat King Cole for ‘The Disney Holiday Singalong’ show in December.

Meanwhile, Pink recently admitted she is “proud” of herself and Carey for reaching 15 years of marriage.

The ‘So What’ hitmaker took to social media last month to mark their 15th wedding anniversary and gushed that she’s happy the couple have made it through so many years together.

She wrote: “15 years. Proud of us babe. See, sometimes being stubborn pays off. What a wild ride it’s been, once we learned how to stay in our race line. Here’s to at least the next 15 months hahahAh. I love you and I love our family. (sic)”

Pink and Carey have been open about their marriage in the past, with the former previously explaining that she and her husband have been keeping their marriage strong by attending counselling together.

She said: “Marriage is awful, wonderful, comfort and rage. It is boring, terrifying, and a total nail biter. It is loving another fallible creature while trying to love yourself. It is a lifetime of coming back to the table.

“People laugh at us because we’re either fighting or laughing. They roll their eyes when we talk about therapy. But I’ll tell you what. It’s worth it. All of it. Even when it isn’t.”

Rihanna’s Fenty clothing label ‘put on hold’ – Music News

The ‘Diamonds’ hitmaker launched the luxury fashion line in 2019 with LVMH.

However, after two years, they’ve made the joint decision to close down the clothing business to focus on the singer’s lucrative Fenty Beauty cosmetics and Savage x Fenty lingerie lines.

In a statement issued to WWD.com, LVMH said: “Rihanna and LVMH have jointly made the decision to put on hold the RTW activity, based in Europe, pending better conditions. Following the completion of a fundraising round where L Catterton has taken a stake into Savage X Fenty, LVMH and Rihanna reaffirm their ambition to concentrate on the growth and the long-term development of [the] Fenty ecosystem focusing on cosmetics, skincare and lingerie.”

The Fenty clothing arm was tailored to the high-end market, whereas Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty is more affordable.

The last collection was in November and saw Rihanna team up with popular designer Amina Muaddi on a range of heels.

Upon the launch of Fenty clothing, the 32-year-old star had insisted: “I’m not the face of my brand, but I am the muse, and my DNA has to run all the way through it. I don’t want anyone to pull up my website and think, Rihanna would never wear that.”

Rihanna is yet to comment on the closure.

Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Iron Maiden, Carole King and Dionne Warwick lead nominees for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2021 – Music News

The former’s frontman, Dave Grohl, was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of Nirvana in 2014, but it’s the first time Foo Fighters have been nominated.

And the ‘Learn to Fly’ hitmaker has revealed he would like The Police drummer Stewart Copeland to induct the band should they be chosen to enter the Hall of Fame, because he inspired him to start Foo Fighters as a solo project after Nirvana dissolved in 1994.

He told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show, he recalled: “One of the reasons why I did that is because when I was young someone gave me a record by an artist named Klark Kent, right?

“It was this kind of weird, fringe thing. Klark Kent? Who’s Klark Kent? It sounded a lot like The Police. It sounded a lot like The Police, because it was actually Stewart Copeland. The drummer of The Police made this record under the name Klark Kent. He didn’t put his name on the record.”

Dave added: “If you’ve ever hung out with Stewart Copeland, he can make a f****** speech.”

As for Carole, she was previously inducted as a songwriter along with Gerry Goffin in 1990.

Tina Tuner is also up for the honour and had been inducted in 1991 with Ike Turner.

Rage Against The Machine have also received their second nod, having previously being nominated in 2019.
LL Cool J has been nominated for a sixth time, while it’s Chaka Khan’s third time as a solo artist.

Other nominees included Kate Bush, New York Dolls and Todd Rundgren.

John Sykes, chairman of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, commented: “This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrates. These nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them.”
The class of 2021 will be unveiled in May.

The 2020 ceremony, which was held virtually amid the COVID-19 pandemic, saw the likes of Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G., T. Rex, Whitney Houston and The Doobie Brothers honoured.

Robin Thicke was ‘chasing’ fame and success in the early years of his career – Music News

The ‘Blurred Lines’ hitmaker has admitted to “losing” himself in the process of seeking fame and that, ultimately, it left him feeling a bit empty.

He explained: “I started to chase it more and need it more and think that that was what was going to make me happy.

“Ultimately, of course, it never does. It didn’t. I lost myself in the process chasing something that I never had and never needed, but then once I got some of it, I thought I needed it.”

Robin – who has Julian, 10, with ex-wife Paula Patton, and Mia, two, and 23-month-old Lola with April Love Geary – thinks his life has become more fulfilled since he decided to “slow down”.

The singer told Zane Lowe on Apple Music: “For me, it wasn’t until I actually went to Malibu, slowed down, focused on my son, and then my father passed and I focused on having more kids and more of a family and taking my time with the writing, because I was writing so much, but nothing was really saying anything that mattered to me as a whole, as a whole.

“Bits and pieces. Then I just kind of started to realise that I always wanted to be an artist’s artist, a singer-songwriter, and all I cared about was my catalogue, was the songs. Then I got into all this other stuff that you just get caught up in, man.

“Then I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t happy. I had bad routines, and I lost myself.”

Robin even admitted to losing faith in himself as a musician.

He shared: “Then, even worse, I lost the music. I lost my trust and my confidence in my own music.”

Dr. Dre’s estranged wife requests his ‘mistresses’ sit for depositions – Music News

Dr. Dre’s estranged wife Nicole Young has requested three women who she claims her husband was intimate with during their marriage sit for depositions as part of the former couple’s bitter divorce case.

According to new documents obtained by TMZ, Young is keen to ask the women if Dre lavished them with money and presents during their time together, as well as questioning one as to whether the rapper provided her with the money she used to buy a $2.15 million (£1.5 million) house in 2019.

Young filed for divorce from the rap mogul, real name Andre Romelle Young, in June after 24 years of marriage.

Since her filing, the former couple has been embroiled in a bitter row about the validity of their prenup agreement, with Young alleging that while she signed the document, Dre ripped it up as a romantic gesture.

In the latest documents, Young claims the lawyer for the three women is attempting to delay their depositions until the validity of her prenuptial agreement with Dre is decided.

However, she says the outcome of the case with the three women could affect her spousal support, and the validity of the prenup, so she wants the depositions to happen sooner rather than later.

Dionne Warwick series in the works with Teyana Taylor attached – Music News

A new series based on Dionne Warwick’s life will star Teyana Taylor, according to the legendary singer.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Warwick revealed the project is “in the works”, adding that Taylor may also direct.

“Teyana is certainly a talented young lady with whom I’ve had the pleasure of interfacing,” Dionne told the publication.

“She’s very excited about the prospect of being involved and she’s also going to be very, very much involved in directing it and putting together parts and parcel of how we see this going,” she went on.

Dionne first teased the project via Twitter in December, asking fans if they’d “really watch” a series about her life, adding: “This is a case for @netflix. Please don’t ask who I would cast to play me as it would obviously be @TEYANATAYLOR.”

Taylor responded with a number of ‘raising hands’ emojis, while Netflix bosses retweeted the post and added: “Taking notes”.

Warwick has yet to confirm Netflix will be the home for the project, telling EW: “They’re not the only place that we’re looking at but Netflix seems to be the leading episodic (platform) to do something similar to what I want to do. There’s a lot of very exciting stuff going on right now!”
