H.E.R. planning to make America the Beautiful her own during Super Bowl performance – Music News

H.E.R. is planning to put her own spin on America the Beautiful when she performs it at the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The singer, real name Gabriella Wilson, will take to centre field to belt out the Ray Charles’ tune before the big game, and told Entertainment Tonight that she’s been watching previous renditions to ensure that she brings something different with her performance.

“Honestly, I am so excited to just be performing at the Super Bowl,” she explained. “It’s a huge stage and it doesn’t get any bigger, you know? But I think the goal, for me, is to make (the song) my own. I’m a huge fan of the different versions of America the Beautiful, but I really want to bring some different elements in there… make it H.E.R.

“I’ve been in rehearsals a lot, and I’ve been watching a lot of other performers. I’m just going to try to tell myself to have a really good time. But I’m going to be in there, getting my warmups in, and just praying that everything goes well.”

It’s been a big week for H.E.R. – who also received her first-ever Golden Globe nomination on Wednesday for her original song, Fight for You, from Judas and the Black Messiah.

The 23-year-old star was stunned when she realised she had been recognised for her songwriting.

“Oh my gosh, it means the world!” I really can’t believe it. I didn’t imagine this happening, so to be recognised by the Golden Globes off of a song I already enjoyed making for an amazing movie, it’s crazy,” she said.

“My phone was just blowing up with ‘Congratulations’ (this morning) and I was so confused. I was like, ‘For what?’ and then, as I figured out what was going on, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s a Golden Globe nomination.’ I was not expecting it. It was amazing.”

Phoebe Bridgers stopped following Marilyn Manson after visiting his home – Music News

Phoebe Bridgers has added her support to the women accusing Marilyn Manson of abuse, revealing she stopped being a fan of the shock rocker following a visit to his home.

Bridgers, now 26, revealed she was invited to the Rock is Dead hitmaker’s home when she was a teenager and realised quickly all was not what it seemed.

“I went to Marilyn Manson’s house when I was a teenager with some friends,” she explained on Twitter, remarking: “I was a big fan.”

She went on: “He referred to a room in his house as the ‘rape room’. I thought it was just his horrible frat boy sense of humor. I stopped being a fan. I stand with everyone who came forward.”

Phoebe has also turned on Manson’s aides, who she claims did nothing about the rocker’s alleged weird habits that appear to have landed him in hot water amid new claims from his exes, including former fiancee Evan Rachel Wood.

“The label knew, management knew, the band knew,” Bridgers added. “Distancing themselves now, pretending to be shocked and horrified is f**king pathetic,” she fumed.

After Wood went public with her allegations earlier this week, claiming Manson “groomed” and “horrifically” abused her for years, a handful of other women have posted their own allegations against the singer.

The scandal has cost Manson a record deal and two TV roles.

He has issued a statement denying the abuse allegations against him, writing on Instagram: “Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality.”

He asserted: “my intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

The Weeknd’s bloody alter ego won’t be making an appearance at the Super Bowl – Music News

The Weeknd will be toning down his bloody look for his 2021 Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show on Sunday, so he doesn’t upset censors.

The pop star has appeared bloodied, bruised, and bandaged in the videos and artwork linked to his After Hours album while appearing to play a character recovering from plastic surgery, but he has assured parents his look won’t scare young kids watching the big game.

“I definitely want to be respectful to the viewers at home,” The Weeknd said during a press conference on Thursday.

“I will still incorporate some of the story line (from the videos) – it’s a very cohesive story I’m telling throughout this year, so the story will continue, but we definitely will keep it PG (rated) for the families. I’ll try my best,” he promised.

The Canadian star isn’t giving anything else away about his performance on Sunday, which reportedly features a multi-million dollar set The Weeknd himself has helped pay for, but he admits he has been inspired by half-time shows headlined by Prince, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, and Diana Ross, who ended her hits gig by taking off in a helicopter.

“She’s just so glamorous and the show just makes me smile,” he recalled of Ross’ concert in Arizona in 1996.

“She has a great exit with the helicopter – it lands in the middle of the field, she grabs onto it and flies off into the clouds. It’s like, ‘I wish I could have done that; I wish I’d thought of it’. Although I don’t think I have enough money to do it!” he laughed.

Theme park bosses suing Taylor Swift over Evermore – Music News

The owners of a fantasy park in Utah are suing Taylor Swift for trademark infringement.

Evermore theme park’s owners have claimed the pop star gaffed when she slapped ‘Evermore’ – the title of her latest album – on merchandise, asserting they own the copyright to the name.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, the park argued they trademarked ‘Evermore’ back in 2004, and Taylor’s merchandise online is causing confusion in the marketplace. They insist Swift’s use of the name is hurting their bottom line, and are seeking millions in damages, alleging that after Swift’s album was released on December 11, search results for the theme park dropped on Google.

Taylor’s lawyers have called the legal action “baseless” and added that the singer-songwriter styled her new album “in a way that is entirely distinct” from the park’s aesthetic. They have also said they refused to comply with a cease and desist letter the park sent to Swift late last year.

Swift’s album, which she released as a surprise follow-up to last year’s bestselling release Folklore, spent two weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 at the end of 2020.

Nick Cannon pulls out of The Masked Singer after positive Covid test – Music News

Nick Cannon has been forced to step down as the host of hit U.S. show The Masked Singer after testing positive for Covid-19.

The rapper-turned-TV personality is currently in quarantine and will reportedly miss the first few episodes of the upcoming new season.

Comedian Niecy Nash will take his place until he recovers and tests negative again.

Season four of the series just wrapped up with LeAnn Rimes as Sun beating out Aloe Blacc and Nick Carter in front of the panel, made up of Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger. Season five is filming now and is set to premiere next month.

After a rocky year for Nick, who got caught up in an anti-Semitism row following remarks he made on his Cannon’s Class podcast, the 40-year-old looks set for a brighter 2021. As well as resuming his The Masked Singer role, he has a new talk show launching in the autumn.

“It’s been a longtime dream of mine to host my own daytime talk show and that I’m able to do this in New York City, bringing daytime television back to the place that has fostered generations of talent, is very special to me,” Nick said in a statement. “With this show, we’ll be uniting all aspects of entertainment in a unique way in the very place where a lot of what we know today as our culture started.”

Florence Welch marks seven years sober – Music News

Florence Welch has celebrated reaching seven years of sobriety.

The Florence and the Machine frontwoman shared artwork of the number seven surrounded by a heart on Instagram on Tuesday, and in the caption, she wrote: “I am 7 years sober today. I send my love and support to anyone who is struggling. If you are feeling shaky around ED issues, drugs or alcohol, I completely understand.

“The desire to disassociate is so strong. But please don’t give up. We are going to need you on the other side.”

She received praise for her commitment to sobriety in the comments, with model/singer Karen Elson writing, “Florence you always continue to inspire!” and Héloïse Letissier from Christine and the Queens posting, “Love you babe,” with a heart emoji.

Florence’s milestone comes after she opened up about her battle with alcohol abuse during an interview with Rolling Stone back in 2018.

“Being an extreme drinker was a huge part of my identity. Music and alcohol are sort of my first two loves,” she told the magazine at the time. “When I stopped, there was this sense that I was letting some ghost of rock history down that I just couldn’t cope anymore. It was monumental. It wasn’t like, ‘I want to be healthy and I need a change of pace.’ It was like, ‘I’m going to die. I need to stop.'”

Hayley Williams to release second solo album on Friday – Music News

Hayley Williams will release her second solo album, ‘Flowers For Vases / Descansos’, on Friday (05.02.21).

After she leaked her new song, ‘My Limb’, by delivering the CD to a fan last week, the 32-year-old singer has announced her follow-up to 2020’s ‘Petals For Armor’ will arrive tomorrow.

Alongside the artwork of her submerged in a milky substance, Hayley wrote on social media: “FLOWERS for VASES / descansos — 2.5.21 (sic)”

The Paramore singer had cryptically teased that her new LP will be called ‘Flowers For Vases’, as her website sent fans to a page with that name.

Hayley confirming her new record comes after she posted a picture of her outside fan Carly Butler’s house after she tweeted about the ‘Still Into You’ hitmaker arriving at her front door with the disc with ‘My Limb’ on it and a candle in hand.

Carly wrote: “Did Hayley Williams drive to your house and drop off a candle and a CD with her new song on it or are you having a normal night.”

She also posted a brief clip of the Wolf Moon and a teaser of ‘My Limb’.

While Hayley captioned the snap of her outside the house with her dog in a spooky cape: “I made Alf wear a cape for this s***. Happy wolf moon and especially to you, [Carly Butler].”

Wolf Moon is another name for the full moon of January, which occurred on January 28.

Hayley had recently teased the track on social media.
She wrote: “Don’t give me the tourniquet.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Misery Business’ singer recently promised fans she isn’t abandoning her Paramore bandmates – who went on hiatus in 2018 – for “greener grass”.

She said: “I can’t deny there’re frontwomen in history who went solo and didn’t go back, so that’s where I have to trust that the band knows I’m not looking for greener grass.

“I see guys like Julian Casablancas and Thom Yorke put out multiple records and go back to their bands all time. They do their own s*** and nobody thinks it cannibalises The Strokes or Radiohead.

“I’m just trying to get some of that other grass and bring it back over to our side, so I can be like, ‘Try this s***, it’s not too bad’.”

Alice Cooper releases a free single to mark his 73rd birthday – Music News

The 73-year-old singer-songwriter has unveiled a track called ‘Social Debris’ as a “gift to Detroit, to his fans and to himself” to mark 73rd birthday on Thursday (04.02.21).

He said: “The single ‘Social Debris’ is a gift to Detroit, to my fans and to myself. The track was written by the original Alice Cooper band. We never thought that we would ever fit in; the Alice Cooper band didn’t fit in with anybody, because we were doing things that no other band did. We didn’t fit in with the folk scene, we didn’t fit in with the metal scene, we really didn’t fit in with anything that was going on at that time. We just always felt like we were outsiders. We felt like we were social debris, we were in our own little world. So ‘Social Debris’ was just the original band writing a song about us, essentially. And it came out sounding like it belonged in 1971. That’s just the original band – you can’t change that, it’s great.”

The track will be available for free for 24 hours from the artist’s website.

And Alice has revealed his upcoming album, ‘Detroit Stories’, will be a celebration of Detroit rock.

He added: “Detroit was Heavy Rock central then. You’d play the Eastown and it would be Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, the Stooges and the Who, for $4! The next weekend at the Grande it was MC5, Brownsville Station and Fleetwood Mac, or Savoy Brown or the Small Faces.

“You couldn’t be a soft-rock band or you’d get your a** kicked … After not fitting in anywhere in the US (musically or image wise) Detroit was the only place that recognised the Alice Cooper guitar driven, hard rock sound and our crazy stage show. Detroit was a haven for the outcasts. And when they found out I was born in East Detroit … we were home.”
