Lynn McDonnell Tackles Covid Relief

30-year music exec turned Life Coach and certified Hypnotist LYNN MCDONNELL shares a new way of communication and execution in her weekly column “Inside Project” which addresses how to feel good, live in joy, and have internal peace.

This week she tackles something we can all relate to. MCDONNELL says, “As we approach the year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are hitting a wall. Mentally, and physically sick and tired of the whole thing. COVID fatigue is real.”

She ponders how to deal with the downtime and uncertainty of what is to come if and when the pandemic ever ends. And she asks a very important question, “If this experience were to last forever – what quality would have to emerge for me to have peace of mind?” Read the full column here.

FKA Twigs: ‘Black community and Chinese martial arts community have a really deep connection’ – Music News

The new issue of THE FACE goes on sale this Thursday 25th February with two covers. The first is fronted by superstar artist FKA Twigs, interviewed by her friend Michaela Coel and shot by Charlotte Wales.

The second cover features Manchester music enterprise NQ, including chart-busting rapper Aitch and their 24-year-old CEO Michael Adex.

More so than any issue since launch, Issue 007 of THE FACE hones in on leaders in their local areas, with stories across music, television, fashion and politics. As the world comes out of its most difficult year in a century, the issue celebrates the extraordinary stories springing up across the nation – as well as the local myths and legends they create.

FKA twigs takes to the cover of THE FACE as she prepares to release perhaps the most brilliant and vital music of her career, sharing it all in conversation with her friend Michaela Coel, creator of the extraordinary BBC series I May Destroy You. In December, Twigs revealed that she was suing her former partner, actor Shia LaBeouf, for sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress, something that she discusses with Michaela as she reflects on her own experience. Twigs also exclusively reveals that she is working with Pa Salieu on new music and that she has had a martial arts television show commissioned by FX.

For the second cover interview, NQ CEO Michael Adex speaks about Manchester’s music legacy, their rising star Aitch who features in the shoot, being touted as the next Factory Records, NQ’s plans to go global following a recent deal with Universal Records and the Mayor of Manchester. NQ is Manchester’s most ambitious music project since the 1980s. Set up by 24-year-old mogul Michael Adex, and fueled by the success of chart-busting rapper Aitch, the talent and entertainment company embodies the same Mancunian spirit that’s been pulsing through the city since Factory Records.

The issue also features a portfolio of London’s young fashion designers, denied graduate shows in the pandemic; Profiles on musician and recently announced Sex Education star Dua Saleh, shot in Newport, and boxing champion Lawrence Okolie, shot in London, plus an exclusive shoot featuring the new Palace x Stella Artois collection.

Key quotes from FKA Twigs’ interview with Michela Coel below:

On naming her upcoming album release… “I saw last week that another artist had called their project the same name as mine. That’s never happened to me before! Another artist who’s really well known… So now [mine] doesn’t have a name again.”

On her upcoming television show commissioned by FX … “It’s like a martial arts TV series which is very much centred around outsiders. And the idea of wanting to fit in but not being able to. I’ve been putting a lot of research into the way that the Black community and the Chinese martial arts community have a really deep connection. It goes into music: the Wu-Tang Clan came together almost through martial arts.”

On her friendship with Michaela Coel… “You’re an incredibly inspiring, nurturing, beautiful friend to have. You’re just… one in a million. And I feel lucky to have you in my life. Thank you for being my friend!”

On her relationship with Shia LeBeouf… “I felt like I was holding on to somebody else’s dysfunction. And now I feel like I’ve given it back to him. It’s his to hold and rightly so. He can hold it because it’s not mine”

“You know, it’s important in this day and age that everybody’s able to be accountable for their actions. And I don’t mean in an “outrage culture” kind of way, because I’m not really here for that either. I mean in a real, genuine, deep place that, thank GOODNESS, we are finally in, where women don’t have to be quiet about that sort of thing anymore.”

On coming forward about her experience of domestic abuse…” I felt like [exhales deeply] a big relief … I felt like it was a real step, not just for me, [but also] for any women who, God forbid, are experiencing or have experienced that.”

On her experience with her black identity last summer… “Remember [during the] Black Lives Matter [protests last summer], I was having almost a teenage crisis over being mixed race. It was almost like the 14-year-old self in me came back out again… I’m hoping maybe our children’s children, if the world’s still going then, won’t have this complex relationship with the colour of their skin.”

Frank Iero revealed My Chemical Romance planned a lot of stuff before covid delayed reunion tour – Music News

Frank Iero has revealed My Chemical Romance had planned a lot of stuff before COVID-19 delayed their reunion tour.

The ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’ hitmakers – completed by Gerard Way, Ray Toro and Mikey Way – were set to perform a number of comeback concerts in 2020, after making their long-awaited return in Los Angeles in 2019.

However, the emo veterans were forced to delay their plans due to the ongoing health crisis, with shows in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and North America, pushed back until 2021.

And the 39-year-old guitarist has spilled that MCR were gutted that all of their “well-made plans” had to be paused.
Speaking to At The Drive-In’s Jim Ward on Instagram Live, Frank said of their upcoming shows: “I can’t wait, man. I really can’t. It’s such a weird experience to be like, ‘Hey alright all of this stuff that we’ve been working towards and these well-made plans,’ and all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Ah hurry up and wait.’ But it happens …The plan is to make it seem like you didn’t put any work in, you didn’t prepare for anything like f****** James Dean. You just want to be cool without even trying.”

The ‘Helena’ rockers are currently scheduled to kick off the UK leg on June 15 at the Eden Project in Cornwall, South England.

However, it’s not currently known whether the gig will still go ahead, especially given British Prime Minister Boris Johnson just announced large-scale live events are not likely to return until June 21.

In a statement announcing the rescheduling of their concerts, MCR had said: “As a band, we are deeply aware of the profound problems and crucial issues the world is facing right now.

“These issues are all life-changing, and we have them in the forefront of our minds on a regular basis. All of our focus should be on making the world better in every way we can.

“We would never want to distract from the challenges we are facing right now, but we feel it is the right thing to let people know that we have rescheduled our shows, so that we can offer people a refund on tickets in these difficult financial times.”

Cardi B covered up insecurities with cosmetic surgery – Music News

Cosmetic surgery helped Cardi B overcome her childhood insecurities.

Now 28, the rapper had admitted she had a miserable childhood and was bullied for her “skinny” looks.

In a new chat with Mariah Carey for Interview magazine, the WAP hitmaker said: “I was really skinny when I was younger, and in the Bronx, it’s about being thick and having an a**, so young boys would be like, ‘Look at your flat a**. You ain’t got no t**ties’. And it would make me feel so ugly and undeveloped.”

But, thanks to a few nips, tucks and enhancements, Cardi shared that she feels good about herself – and her success.

“I feel so vindicated,” she told Mariah, “even when I was 18 and became a dancer, I had enough money to afford to buy boobs, so every insecurity that I felt about my breasts was gone.”

She explained: “When I was 20, I went to the urban strip club, and in the urban strip clubs, you had to have a big butt, so I felt insecure about that. It took me back to high school. So I got my a** done. And then I felt super confident.”

Cardi showed off her assets in the Interview cover photo, wearing nothing but thigh-high gold armour boots, covering up her breasts and genitals with well-placed arms.

Beyonce’s mother heaps praise on JAY-Z in gushing open letter – Music News

Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles-Lawson has praised her son-in-law JAY-Z in a gushing open letter.

Tina shared the letter on Instagram after it was announced that the Empire State of Mind star had sold 50 per cent of his champagne brand, Armand de Brignac, to luxury goods company LVMH’s Moet Hennessy.

“Jay I salute you and your Latest venture … You are a bad a*s brother and I hope that you continue to pave the way for others like you have in the past!!” Tina wrote. “And I have seen such extreme kindness and generosity so many times that people don’t even know anything about! You are a true man who has admitted publicly when you’ve made mistakes in a very brave and classy way! You have in turn influenced the Culture of Young Black Men. You are a Bad A*s brother. I love you so much!!”

Tina also referenced the way that Jay, who shares three children with wife Beyonce, and his record label Roc Nation had helped curate the entertainment at the Super Bowl earlier this month.

“Everyone was psyched about it! Each person that performed Jazmine Sullivan, H.E.R. and The Weekend (sic) all slaying their performances and making Black Excellence shine and us all proud,” she continued. “I could not help but remember when J took on being in charge of the Entertainment at the Super Bowl, and saying that things would never change unless we had someone on the inside that could make decisions. Someone at the top.”

Despite the fact that he was called “a sellout” for the Super Bowl commitment, Jay “kept it moving” – with Tina commenting: “One thing that I’ve noticed about Jay is that he doesn’t let what people say bully him into not doing the things that he knows are right.”

Beyonce’s Destiny’s Child bandmate Michelle Williams was among those commenting on Tina’s post, using red heart emojis to express her love of the letter.

John Mayer ‘almost cried five times’ watching Framing Britney Spears – Music News

John Mayer was close to tears while watching the recent documentary about Britney Spears.

Britney’s rise to pop superstardom, her infamous 2008 breakdown and subsequent conservatorship was all documented in the recently-released New York Times film, Framing Britney Spears.

And reflecting on the programme during an interview on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live on Monday, Mayer admitted he became emotional while looking back at Britney’s journey.

“I almost cried five times during that,” he sighed. “To see the sadness in this human being, I almost, I mean the end, I mean, I was on the edge of tears five times, because if you understand what this business, slash industry, slash lifestyle does to a person. To go through this and come out the other side OK, is to have infinite grace for those who struggle with it.”

John continued to say he doesn’t think he would have coped so well in the music industry had he been a woman.

“I came out OK… I have a very strong feeling that part of that is because I’m a man,” he mused. “And I have a very strong feeling that a lot of these things that happen to female performers is endemic to being female. Why do so many men emerge going, ‘Learned my lesson. Yes I got dinked in the head, but I’m back baby?’ So I watched it with such grace for someone who got much more maligned by the inhuman experiment of fame than I did. And I go, ‘Why did I get through that? Why did I find my way through that obstacle course? What was afforded to me stylistically?’

“The stylistic difference of being an outlaw. If you’re a man, you’re an outlaw. If you’re a woman, you’re kind of crazy. And when I watched that through that lens, my heart just ached the whole time.”
